Sunil Narine seemed to be playing against schoolboys as he put on a great all-round performance against Chennai Super Kings. In the first innings, he picked up three wickets as the pitch at the Chidambaram Stadium suited the spinners. Among Sunil’s scalps were Rahul Tripathi, Ravindra Jadeja, and the opposition’s skipper, MS Dhoni.
In the second innings, it was time for Narine to shine with the bat in hand. He scored 44 runs in only 18 balls striking at a rate of 244. His knock consisted of two fours and five sixes and completely sealed a monumental victory for his team.
Harshit Rana picked up two wickets in the first innings but he could have picked at least one more had Sunil Narine and Venkatesh Iyer hung onto a couple of fairly simple catches off his bowling. Rana bowled with great control and kept the pressure on the hosts with his economical spell and the wickets of Rachin Ravindra and Ravichandran Ashwin.
Chennai Super Kings were left rattled at home in the first innings. Ajinkya Rahane led his troops brilliantly in the first after winning the toss. Sunil Narine finally returned to form with the ball in hand as he picked up three wickets in his four overs while giving away only 13 runs.
Narine received a great deal of support from other bowlers as well. Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy too bowled with control and picked up two wickets each while giving away only 38 runs in their eight overs.
For the hosts, they seemed to be batting on a minefield. Other than Shivam Dube, no other batter could manage to score even 30 runs. Six of the nine batters were dismissed for a single-digit score. Batting was pretty tough for them in the first innings, but not anywhere close to what they made it seem like with their scoreboard.
