Shreyas Iyer was named the player of the match for his match-winning knock in the second innings. The right-handed batter played brilliantly and saw off the chase. Even in his post-match interview, Shreyas mentioned that he loves to chase targets, and tonight he showed why he has been such a great batter in the last few matches. He scored 72 runs in only 41 balls, hitting five fours and four sixes. Even though Iyer was dismissed in the 19th over he had sealed the win for his team by the time he was out.
Yuzvendra Chahal became only the third bowler in the history of the IPL to pick up multiple hat-tricks. Amit Mishra leads the charge with three. Meanwhile, Chahal tonight by picking three wickets in three balls in the 19th over, joined Yuvraj Singh as he picked up his second hat-trick in the tournament.
Chahal dismissed MS Dhoni on the second ball of the 19th over. But it was the last three balls of the penultimate over that etched Chahal’s name along with Yuvraj Singh. He dismissed Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj, and Noor Ahmad off successive balls to pick up a hat-trick. The right-arm spinner bowled only three overs as he was pretty expensive. He gave away 30 runs in his first 13 balls before taking four wickets in the next five balls while giving away only two runs.
The story of either going really big or small has continued for Shreyas Iyer. In all games where he has scored 11 runs, Shreyas has gone on to score a half-century, barring one where he was unbeaten with a score of 25. His knock meant that even after losing a few wickets in the last two overs, PBKS chased down the total quite comfortably. The skipper led his team to a four-wicket victory with a knock of 72 runs in 41 balls. In his knock, the left-handed batter struck five fours and four sixes. He was dismissed in the penultimate over, and it was his wicket that made things a bit tricky in the end for the visitors.
Prabhsimran Singh once again carried on with his great form this season. The right-handed batter came into the second innings as an impact sub and made a huge difference in the game. The 24-year-old scored a crucial half-century, helping his team chase down the target of 190 runs. In his 36-ball knock, Prabhsimran scored 54 runs and hit five fours and four sixes.
Sam Curran, coming into this game, had suffered some poor results personally in the season. The English all-rounder made a huge impact in the first innings. It was once again a similar story in the power play for the hosts. However, Curran and Dewald Brevis struck together a useful fourth wicket stand. The left-hander was the aggressor in the stand, and even after Brevis’ wicket, the 26-year-old batted with a positive intent. He scored 88 runs in 47 balls, hitting nine fours and four sixes. In spite of drenching in sweat for the better part of the innings, Curran ran pretty hard between the wickets and struck at a rate of more than 185.
Barring Sam Curran and Dewald Brevis to some extent, it was another horrible batting performance from the Chennai Super Kings. However, the two overseas batters made sure that the hosts did not fold cheaply. Curran was the star performer with the bat in hand. The left-handed batter scored his first fifty of the season. He made 88 runs in only 47 balls to push CSK to a total of 190 runs. Brevis too played a useful supporting role to Curran as he scored 32 runs in 26 balls.
Yuzvendra Chahal etched his name further high in the record book as he became only the third player to take multiple hat-tricks in IPL’s history. He was having a pretty poor night to begin with. The first 13 balls he bowled went for 30 runs, but a wicket off the next delivery charged something in him. He picked up three wickets off successive deliveries in the 19th over to pick up a hat-trick. Arshdeep Singh and Marco Jansen picked up a couple of wickets each. The two left-arm pacers dismissed both openers before getting a wicket each in the back end of the innings.
The PBKS batters carried on with their great form in the season. Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya provided a great start to the innings. The two batters put up 44 runs for the first wicket before Priyansh was dismissed in the fifth over. However, Prabhsimran and Shreyas Iyer did not let the game slip away even with the first wicket in the power play. The two batters scored at a healthy rate and scored half-centuries.
Prabhsimran scored 54 runs in 36 balls, even though he was a bit lucky during his knock. Iyer, on the other hand, was pretty spotless during his 41-ball knock. The PBKS skipper scored 72 runs and led his team to the win. Shashank Singh at the end of the innings, provided some fireworks and scored 23 runs off 12 balls.
For the hosts, Khaleel Ahmed and Matheesha Pathirana picked up a couple of wickets each. However, the CSK bowlers made a really poor effort in the second innings. Only Khaleel Ahmed had an economy of less than nine runs per over.
