Shubman Gill was named the player of the match for his match-winning knock. The GT skipper playing against his former franchise scored 90 runs off 55 balls, setting up the innings. His knock allowed the visitors to score 198 runs on a pitch that proved to be a bit slow. Gill, in the power play, ran pretty hard between the wickets. However, he punched on the bad deliveries as well and smashed 10 fours and three sixes.
Shubman Gill, playing against his former franchise, was right on the money in the first innings. The GT skipper played fantastically in spite of missing out on a century. His knock of 90 runs allowed the visitors to get to a score of 198 in the first innings. The right-handed batter played aggressively with a strike rate of 163.64 and smashed 10 fours and three sixes in his 55-ball knock.
Sai Sudharsan, like his opening partner, too, scored a half-century. The left-handed batter has been in an incredible run of form this season, and with his knock of 52 runs, he took the lead at the top of the Orange Cap list. What sets Sudharsan’s performance in this apart from previous years is that he is playing with a positive intent and is maintaining a healthy strike rate as well. He struck six fours and a solitary six in his 36-ball stay at the crease.
Rashid Khan had been pretty quiet with his performances this season so far. The Afghan spinner had gone wicketless in the last game and also unfortunately had burnt the two reviews as well. Bowling in the second innings, the pitch had seemed to slow down and started to assist the spinners. The leg-spinner picked up a couple of wickets, dismissing the two West Indies’ giants, Sunil Narine and Andre Russell.
Prasidh Krishna, like his skipper, put on a great performance against his former franchise. The right-arm pacer has been in great form in the season so far. He picked up a couple of wickets while giving away only 25 runs in the four overs. His scalps included Ramandeep Singh and Moeen Ali in the 17th over.
Gujarat Titans once again showcased why their top order is considered to be the best among all ten teams in the season. Opening the batting, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan shared a century partnership with the KKR skipper, Ajinkya Rahane, looking clueless against the two batters. Both Gill and Sudharsan took on the five KKR bowlers and reached their respective fifties. While the left-handed batter was dismissed, the GT skipper carried on with his knock. He scored 90 runs in only 55 balls before being dismissed in the death overs. Jos Buttler came to the crease in the 13th over and played a crucial knock, three fours in the first four balls he faced in his innings. The English batter remained unbeaten and scored 41 runs in only 23 balls.
For the Knight Riders, the bowlers looked clueless against the onslaught of the top order from the visitors. In spite of playing three spinners, Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine, and Moeen Ali were wicketless in their 11 overs. Vaibhav Arora, Harshit Rana, and Andre Russell took a wicket each but were pretty expensive in their nine overs.
Following their impressive performance in the first innings, GT bowlers backed their batters. The visitors put on a complete performance with each of the six bowlers getting their names in the wicket column. Rashid Khan and Prasidh Krishna were the two potent bowlers and recorded identical figures. Both bowlers picked up two wickets while giving away 25 runs each in their four overs. Rashid’s scalps included Sunil Narine and Andre Russell, while the right-arm pacer dismissed Ramandeep Singh and Moeen Ali in the space of three deliveries.
For the Knight Riders, once again, it was Rahane who stood alone with the bat in hand. The right-handed batter scored a crucial half-century in the second innings. However, he did not receive any support from the opposite end. Angkrish Raghuvanshi, unlike the previous games, was sent down to bat at number nine tonight. The young right-handed batter remained unbeaten and scored 27 runs in only 13 balls.
