Digvesh Rathi was named the player of the match for his incredible bowling performance. The leg-spinner only picked up one wicket but created a huge impact with his economical bowling. While his team was defending 203 runs, Rathi went for only 21 runs. Apart from him, the rest of the LSG bowlers went for a combined economy of more than 10.5 runs per over.
Digvesh Singh Rathi has been unarguably the most consistent bowler for the Lucknow Super Giants in these four games. In the previous game, the tall leg-spinner picked up the only two wickets for them. Tonight while defending a healthy target of 203 runs, he bowled with great control. Rathi dismissed Naman Dhir who had scored 46 runs in only 24 balls. In his four overs, he went for only 21 runs and was the only bowler for the hosts to concede less than 40 runs.
With the bat in hand, Mitchell Marsh provided a great start in the powerplay. The Australian batter struck a quickfire fifty and took the charge against MI bowlers in the first six overs. His knock allowed Aiden Markram to take his time at the top of the order. He smashed nine fours and a couple of sixes to strike at a rate of 193.
Hardik Pandya was on fire once again with the ball in hand. The MI skipper picked up his first five-wicket haul in T20 cricket. He picked up the crucial wickets of Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Rishabh Pant, and David Miller. He picked up his fifth wicket on the penultimate ball of the second innings dismissing Akash Deep.
The hosts after suffering a poor performance with the bat in hand at home against Punjab Kings completely turned the tables against Mumbai Indians. Led by openers, Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram, LSG scored 203 runs in the first innings. Both Marsh and Markram scored fifties. Marsh was the aggressor when the two batted together and reached his half-century in the powerplay itself. His partner on the other end took his time to settle initially but accelerated in the end to pick up the ante.
For the Mumbai Indians, skipper, Hardik Pandya was the best bowler on display. The right-arm pacer picked up a five-wicket haul to make sure that LSG did not get away with the match in the first innings.
It was a great contest in the second inning even with LSG stealing the victory by 12 runs. Suryakumar Yadav played a great knock and almost won the match for the visitors. However, with the ball in hand, Digvesh Rathi bowled with extreme control. The tall leg-spinner did not give away any width to the MI batters. In his four overs, he bowled mostly at the stumps and went for only 21 runs.
