Ryan Rickelton was named the player of the match for his incredible batting performance. The left-handed opening batter came into this game after hitting a half-century at the Wankhede Stadium in the previous game. Tonight, he played risk-free shots and made sure that every loose delivery from the RR bowlers was punished. Rickelton top socred in the match as he made 61 runs in only 38 balls.
Ryan Rickelton was the top scorer in the game. The left-handed batter has been in great form this season. After scoring a half-century at home against Lucknow Super Giants in the previous game, Rickelton made his form count tonight. The South African batter scored 61 runs in only 38 balls and smashed seven fours and three sixes.
Hardik Pandya was once again at his best with the bat in hand in the first innings. The MI skipper had a great platform set for himself by the two opening batters and therefore came to bat ahead of the likes of Will Jacks and Tilak Varma. He made sure that the promotion in the batting order did not go to vain as he scored 48 runs in only 23 balls. He smashed six fours and a solitary six in the innings.
In the second innings, Pandya led his team to an emphatic victory by 100 runs. However, in the solitary over he bowled, the right-arm pacer was amongst the wickets. He dismissed Shubham Dubey in the over while giving away only a couple of runs.
Karn Sharma, coming off as an impact sub in the second innings, was the pick among the bowlers. The right-arm leg spinner picked up three wickets while giving away only 23 runs. Among his scalps were Dhruv Jurel, Maheesh Theekshana, and Kumar Kartikeya.
Trent Boult was the most expensive bowler of the night for the Mumbai Indians. However, the Kiwi pacer would not mind his high economy one bit. Boult was among the wickets straightaway. Like he has done in the past, the left-arm seamer picked up a wicket in his first over, dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal. In his following over, he got the better of Nitish Rana before getting the final wicket in the form of Jofra Archer.
Jasprit Bumrah, following his four-wicket haul from the last game, was almost unplayable tonight. The Indian pacer, bowling his first over, was among the wickets straightaway. He dismissed Riyan Parag and Shimron Hetmyer off consecutive deliveries. While he did not pick any other wicket in his spell, Bumrah gave away only 15 runs in his four overs.
Suryakumar Yadav has been the most consistent batter this season. The MI batter has scored 25 runs or more in every game this season. Tonight was no different as Surya raced to a score of 48 runs off only 23 balls. The only thing standing between him and a half-century was his batting partner, Hardik Pandya, who too was going at a similar pace and ended with the identical score. In his knock, he smashed four fours and three sixes. Surya, with this knock, climbed to the top of the leaderboard for the Orange Cap.
Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma once again got off to a great start. However, it was the first time this season that the two opening batters for the Mumbai Indians scored a half-century each in the same game. Apart from a close LBW call against Rohit, the two openers played without taking many risks. Rickelton was the aggressor in the partnership, scoring 61 runs in 38 balls. Meanwhile, Rohit scored 53 runs off 36 deliveries.
When the two batters were dismissed, RR would have thought they would take the game away. However, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya stopped that from happening. The two right-handed batters made identical scores of 48 runs in 23 balls each. The effort from the two batters meant that MI ended up with an above-par score.
For the RR bowlers, Riyan Parag and Maheesh Theekshana were the only wicket-takers. The skipper bowled a couple of overs while giving away only 12 runs and dismissed Rohit Sharma. However, all the other bowlers were highly expensive and bowled too many loose deliveries.
It was a dominating performance from the Mumbai Indians, to say the least, in the second innings. There was a one-way traffic at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium with the MI bowlers being absolutely on their mark. Deepak Chahar got the innings moving by picking a wicket in the first over. Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah picked up a couple of wickets each in the power play itself. Every bowler, barring, Corbin Bosch was among the wickets. Karn Sharma, coming off as an impact su,b picked up three wickets and was pretty economical as well during his spell.
For the Rajasthan Royals, it was an embarrassment with the bat in hand. Jofra Archer had to come in to bat as early as the eighth over. He was their top scorer, scoring 30 runs in 27 balls. Most batters were out while trying to smash a boundary or looking for a big hit. The inexperience in their batting was quite evident as no player showcased any accountability to stay at the crease.
