Trent Boult was named the player of the match for an incredible bowling spell in the first innings. The left-arm pacer picked up four wickets, equally split between the new ball as well as the old ball. The Kiwi pacer dismissed both SRH openers in the power play. It was a slightly wide delivery to get rid of Travis Head before bowling a knuckle ball to outfox Abhishek Sharma. In the death, he came on to bowl the last over of the match and dismissed Abhinav Manohar and Pat Cummins.
Trent Boult playing against his first IPL team was right on the money. Even though the Kiwi pacer played for only a couple of years for them in 2015 and 2016, the local fans would have wished that he was playing for them tonight and not against them. The 35-year-old pacer picked up two wickets in the power play, dismissing both the SRH openers for low scores. He bowled an over in the middle phase before coming on to finish the first innings. In his final over, Boult picked up two more wickets off yorkers to finish with a four-fer.
Deepak Chahar was right on the money with the new ball. He found a great deal of swing and movement in the air in the first few overs. He was given an extended spell by skipper Hardik Pandya as Chahar bowled four overs on the trot. The right-arm pacer was lucky when he got his first wicket with Ishan Kishan walking off despite not being out. In his third over, Chahar dismissed Nitish Kumar Reddy to pick up his second wicket of the match. He did not give away anything in his four overs as the batters managed to score only 12 runs off his 24 deliveries.
Rohit Sharma carried on with his purple patch from the previous game against Chennai Super Kings. The right-handed batter played a match-winning knock at Wankhede Stadium and once again scored a half-century against the Orange Army. It is his second fifty on the trot this season. He remained unbeaten and scored 70 runs in 46 balls. The former MI skipper played with a healthy strike rate and smashed three sixes and eight fours.
Mumbai Indians completely dominated the proceedings in the first over. The five-time champions were on song in the first six overs. SRH lost four wickets while scoring only 24 runs in the power play.
The dangerous-looking top order of Travis Head, Ishan Kishan, and Abhishek Sharma was sent back to the pavilion with only 13 runs on the board. 13 proved to be unlucky for the Orange Army as they lost their fourth wicket without adding another run. Both Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult picked up two wickets each in the power play. The hosts were saved by a sixth-wicket partnership between Heinrich Klaasen and Abhinav Manohar. Boult was the pick among the bowlers as he picked up four wickets. He picked up two big wickets in the power play before taking two wickets in the last over of the innings.
Barring Klaasen and Manohar, it was a disappointing performance from the SRH batters. The South African batter struck 71 runs in only 44 balls, hitting nine fours and a couple of sixes. Manohar, on the other hand, struggled with timing initially in the innings. He scored only one run off the first seven balls he faced. However, he stepped on the gas and ended up scoring 43 runs in 37 balls.
It was once again a complete domination by the Mumbai Indians in the second innings. The five-time champions, after restricting SRH to a below-par score of 143 runs, it was highly unlikely that they would have felt any challenge. Rohit Sharma sealed the win for the visitors with his second half-century of the season. The former MI skipper scored 70 runs in only 46 balls. He remained unbeaten and smashed three sixes and eight fours. Suryakumar Yadav, Will Jacks, and Ryan Rickelton also chipped in with a few runs. Suryakumar remained unbeaten and scored 40 runs in only 19 balls. He smashed five fours and a couple of sixes while going at a strike rate of 210.
For the hosts, Jaydev Unadkat, Zeeshan Ansari, and Eshan Malinga were the only wicket-takers. Unadkat dismissed Rickelton early in the innings. Ansari dismissed Will Jacks in the 10th over, but it could not make much difference to the overall result of the match.
