The tri-series will be contested between Sri Lanka, India, and South Africa. It will be vital for their preparation for the 50-over World Cup, scheduled to take place later this year in India. The series is scheduled to be held from April 27 to May 11 in Colombo. Sri Lanka has been announced as the host for a women’s ODI tri-series with India and South Africa in April and May, as confirmed by SLC on Thursday.
This tri-series was not originally included in the Future Tours Programme. Each team will face the other twice, leading to a total of four matches per team, after which the top two will qualify for the final. The series will start with a clash between hosts Sri Lanka and India. All matches will take place during the day at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo from April 27 to May 11.
Current Engagements and Rankings of the Teams
Sri Lanka is currently touring New Zealand for a white-ball series, while most Indian players are engaged in the WPL at home. Some players from South Africa are currently competing in the WPL. South Africa’s next planned international series, before this tri-series was scheduled, was a tour of the West Indies in June.
The tri-series will provide the three teams with additional preparation time ahead of the ODI World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in India this October.
Sri Lanka are the current Asia Cup champions. In the 2022 ODI World Cup, South Africa reserved a spot in the semifinals by eliminating India during the league stage. However, India holds the highest ICC ODI ranking among the three teams at third place, with South Africa in fourth and Sri Lanka in seventh.
The Indian team will be faced by the Lankan side for the second game on May 4. The second fixture for India against South Africa will take place on May 6. The last group game between Sri Lanka and South Africa will be held on May 8, before the final on May 11. All matches will be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
