IND vs NZ Match 12 Champions Trophy 2025 Highlights

Loading table...

The IND vs NZ match highlights showcase how the Indian players had a major say in how the match panned out. However, the New Zealand team also had some great performances, especially from Matt Henry. The right-arm pacer picked up a five-wicket haul in the first innings and, in the process, became the first player to claim a fifer against India in Champions Trophy history. Apart from Henry, Kane Williamson and skipper Mitchell Santner also had their say in the overall result of the match.

IND vs NZ Top Performers

The Men in Blue registered an emphatic victory over their rivals, New Zealand, and booked a date with Australia in the semifinal of the Champions Trophy 2025. The Indian players were the top features of the IND vs NZ match highlights. Even after being put in a precarious position in the early part of the match, the Indian middle-order pushed the score to 249 runs. The target proved to be out of reach of the Kiwi batters, thanks to the Indian spin unit.

Shreyas Iyer - 79 (98)

Shreyas Iyer came in to bat when the score was 22-2, which was then changed to 30-3. As the Indian batting lineup was in shambles, the need of the hour was a crucial partnership for the fourth wicket. Iyer was joined by Patel at the crease, and the duo steadied the ship with a 98-run stand. The right-handed batted slowly at the start of his innings but shifted gears once he was set. His knock of 79 runs came at a strike rate of 80 and consisted of six boundaries, two of which were sixes. He was dismissed by Will O’Rourke with a short ball, but not before he played multiple pull shots on the same type of delivery during his stay.

Axar Patel - 42 (61) and 1/32

Axar Patel proved his worth as an all-rounder once again against New Zealand. He made a crucial all-round effort in the IND vs NZ match highlights. The left-hander came in to bat before KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya. He played a crucial knock of 42 runs off 61 deliveries. While his strike rate of 68 allowed the Kiwi spinners to settle, Patel never looked troubled. He was dismissed to the part-time spin of Rachin Ravindra and a great catch from Kane Williamson.

In the second innings, Patel was the first spinner to be introduced in the attack. The left-arm spinner for the first 59 balls of his spell was wicketless and only struck with his final delivery. He claimed the wicket of New Zealand’s top scorer, Williamson. However, while he was wicketless, Patel had a great impact. He tightened the screws in the powerplay and did not allow the Kiwi batters to take a flying start in a chase of a relatively low score.

Hardik Pandya - 45 (45) and 1/22

Like Axar, Hardik Pandya too continues to be the clutch-man for India. The right-handed batter was the only player across both teams to have batted at a strike rate of 100 while scoring more than 15 runs. On a slow pitch, the Indian batters struggled to get going in the middle-overs. This meant that Pandya would have to do the bulk of scoring at a quick pace in the death overs. He scored 45 runs in as many balls before being dismissed in the final over. In his knock, Pandya struck four fours and two sixes.

With the ball in hand, the right-arm pacer was one of the only two fast bowlers for India. He had the added responsibility of sharing the new ball with Mohammed Shami. The 31-year-old struck in his second over and dismissed Rachin Ravindra. It was an important wicket as the Ravindra had scored a century in his previous match.

Varun Chakravarthy - 5/42

Varun Chakravarthy faced a tough setback around three and a half years ago at the same venue against the same opponent, albeit in a different format. Since his return to the Indian team in 2024, the mystery spinner has bounced back to his best. The IND vs NZ match highlights were dominated by his wickets. Playing only his second ODI, Chakravarthy was brought in the team yesterday in the place of Harshit Rana. He registered his maiden five-wicket haul in the format by dismissing Will Young, Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner, and Matt Henry. His fifer puts India in a spot of bother for their team selection ahead of the semi-final clash against Australia.

Matt Henry - 5/42

Matt Henry has been a fearsome bowler for the Indian batters in the past. The right-arm pacer has often been at his best against the Men in Blue. Coming into the IND vs NZ match yesterday, Henry had yet to take a wicket in the powerplay in the Champions Trophy 2025. He quickly changed that record by dismissing Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli in the first 10 overs. Henry came back to strike again in the final five overs of the innings. Henry dismissed Ravindra Jadeja, Hardik Pandya, and Mohammed Shami to register a fifer.

Mitchell Santner - 28 (31) and 1/41

New Zealand’s skipper, Mitchell Santner, had a great day on the field in spite of his team being on the losing side. The left-arm spinner in the first innings was the most economical spinner. In his 10 overs, Santner gave away only 41 runs, bowled a maiden over, and even dismissed KL Rahul to pick up his only wicket of the match.

In the second innings, with the bat in hand, the left-hander came to the crease with the score of 159-6 and joined Kane Williamson. Even though the match looked lost for his team, Santner played a fighting knock and scored 28 runs in only 31 balls. He smashed two of the four sixes of the innings.

Kane Williamson - 81 (120)

Kane Williamson, for the better part of the match, had done everything right. In the first innings, he took a stunning catch to dismiss Ravindra Jadeja, similar to what Glenn Phillips had done earlier in the day to dismiss Kohli. In the second innings, Williamson came to the crease at the fall of the first wicket.

After having struggled in the first two games in the tournament, the right-handed batter had to play one of his best knocks to steer the Kiwis to victory. Williamson started his innings aggressively but could not play at a similar clip against the Indian spinners. Once he started to struggle for his timing, the chase of the target looked over for the Kiwis. He scored 81 runs in 120 balls in an innings which featured seven fours.

IND vs NZ Player of the Match

Varun Chakravarthy was named the Player of the Match for his five-wicket haul in the IND vs NZ match highlights. The inclusion of Chakravarthy in the squad for the Champions Trophy was met with a great deal of criticism. Questions were raised about Gautam Gambhir’s loyalty to the Kolkata Knight Riders and its players.

However, the IND vs NZ match highlights showcase how the mystery spinner proved all the doubters wrong and stood upon the faith shown in him by the team management. Playing only his second match in the One-Day format, he claimed crucial wickets to win the match for the Indian team. Chakravarthy dismissed Will Young, Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner, and Matt Henry.

IND vs NZ First Innings Summary

The IND vs NZ match highlights in the first innings showed an equal battle between the two sides. Matt Henry and Kyle Jamieson struck in the powerplay to reduce India to 30 runs at the loss of three wickets. Shreyas Iyer, with his knock of 79 runs, was the leading batter for the Indian team. He received great support from Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel, while the Kiwi spinners controlled the flow of runs.

IND vs NZ Second Innings Summary

Loading table...

The second innings, barring Kane Williamson, was dominated by the Indian bowlers. The IND vs NZ match highlights show how the Indian bowlers, particularly the spinners led by Chakravarthy, strangled the opposition. They tightened the screws early on in the powerplay before completely bowling the Santner-led side out of the game in the middle overs.

India vs Astralia and New Zealand vs South Africa in the semifinals

As the league stage ended on Sunday, the two semi-final clashes were finalised. The IND vs NZ match highlights showcased that India, by winning the match, topped the group. They will now face second-placed Australia on Tuesday in Dubai. New Zealand and South Africa will clash on Wednesday in Lahore.

The clash between India and Australia will be a repeat of the 2023 ODI World Cup final. The Aussies, led by Pat Cummins, won in 2023 to be crowned champions for the sixth time. But when they take on India in Dubai, most of the players from the team that became champions will be missing. Steve Smith leads the Australian side against Rohit Sharma’s Indian team. It will be a blockbuster clash and can prove to be one of the best matches of the tournament.

Champions from the first two editions of the Champions Trophy will clash in the second semi-final in Lahore. South Africa will be the slight favorites, having been undefeated in the group stages. On the other hand, New Zealand will be coming into this game after a tough loss against India on Sunday.
