44-year-old MS Dhoni is a right-handed batter and wicketkeeper of the CSK who is also known as MS Dhoni, Mahi, or just Dhoni. Among the Chennai Super Kings fans, Dhoni is famous as “Thala,” meaning Boss, which shows how much he has earned respect.  He has served the franchise as a leader and has led the team to five IPL trophies. In 2024, MS Dhoni handed over CSK’s captaincy into the hands of his successor Ruturaj Gaikwad. Currently, Dhoni serves as a wicketkeeper and a low-order batter who is ready to turn stressful situations into celebrations.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the few players who are still playing in the Indian Premier League since the tournament’s inception in 2008. MS Dhoni started his IPL journey with Chennai Super Kings playing the role of captain and a wicket-keeper batter. His debut match was against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. 

Speaking of his stats, Dhoni wasn’t a top leader-scorer, but his leadership quality took CSK to the Finals of IPL 2008.  Where Dhoni and the squad faced their final defeat against the Rajasthan Royals, who won the inaugural IPL season.  However, this was the start of Dhoni’s becoming a brand for the franchise and not just a player. The highest pay for the uncapped players is INR 4 crore. It is the reason why so many fans and color commentators were suspicious about Dhoni’s play in the IPL 2025 season.
