Cricket Australia chief executive Todd Greenberg expressed that the 150th-anniversary Test at the MCG will be a special and historic occasion for cricket, with the spectacle of a day-night match serving as a powerful nod to cricket’s tradition while embracing the dynamic future of Test matches. He also noted that this format will make it simple for more fans to attend and catch all the action in what is sure to be an epic cricketing event.
The Centenary Test brought cricket fans unforgettable highlights, including Hookes’s five consecutive boundaries. McCosker’s brave innings through injury and Randall’s determined batting masterclass. Greenbag expressed confidence that the 150th Test will contribute a new and memorable chapter in cricket’s longest-standing legacy.
Australia will host the 2025-26 Ashes against England, starting in November.
A semi-final run at the Champions Trophy has been secured by Australia’s men’s team, and their World Test Championship title will be defended in a final against South Africa in England in June.
Since the introduction of day-night Test matches in 2015, Australia has contested 13 such matches at home, winning 12 of them. Australia has played most of these pink-ball games, spanning both day and night- in Adelaide, with the latest begin date being January 25.
The season’s Ashes series will build excitement for this highly anticipated contest in two years, and we look forward to commemorating this significant occasion as the countdown begins.
The men’s team of Australia faces an action-packed 2027, starting with a four-Test home series against New Zealand in December and January of 2026-27, ahead of their journey to India for a blockbuster five-Test series in the first two months of the year. After returning, they will take on England in a one-off Test, which will overlap with the IPL, scheduled to begin on March 14, 2027.
The one-off Test won’t be part of the World Test Championship, but if Australia qualifies for the 2027 final- as they did in 2023 and 2025- they will play in June before heading into a five-match away Ashes, mirroring the sequence followed in 2023. The 2027 ODI World Cup is planned for October and November.
