Can IPL be watched for free?

JioHotsar is a new platform following the merger of Jio Cinema and Disney+ Hotstar. Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance and Walt Disney merged their media assets last year in a $8.5 billion deal. The new platform will be streaming IPL. JioCinema allowed the fans to watch the marquee T20 tournament along with other sporting events for free. However, there are reports that the fans would have to pay to watch their favorite teams and players in action in the IPL. 

There are reports that say, IPL would be available on a free-to-watch basis for a brief period. This method will be used to make people loyal users of the platform and then charge them with a subscription. Apart from streaming devices, IPL is also available on TV channels. Previously the marquee T20 league could be watched across Star Sports channels.
