The Champions Trophy 2025 was a great tournament where the fans witnessed some great performances from their favorite players. There were numerous memorable knocks played by the batters in Pakistan, while a few bowlers ruled in Dubai with match-winning spells. It was a privilege for the fans to watch an exciting brand of cricket while the competition in most games remained top-notch. While the hosts, Pakistan, had an abysmal time in the tournament, the people of their country still came in numbers to the stadium in neutral games as well. Here is a look at some of the stats from the Champions Trophy 2025.
Rachin Ravindra scored the most runs in the Champions Trophy 2025. The Kiwi opening batter made 263 runs in the tournament. His achievement of doing so was further made special considering the fact that he did not play in the first game of the tournament. Ravindra scored two tons in four games and only failed to score a triple-digit scores in the two matches he faced India.
Matt Henry picked up the most wickets in the Champions Trophy 2025. The right-arm pacer picked up 10 wickets. Like Rachin, Henry missed one match in the tournament and still ranked at the top. Henry was ruled out from the final against India after injuring his shoulder in the semi-final clash against South Africa. He had picked up a fifer against the Men in Blue in the group stage and was, therefore, a big miss in the final for the Kiwis.
The record for the highest individual score in the history of the Champions Trophy was broken not once but twice in the tournament. Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran made the highest score in the 2025 edition with a knock of 177 runs against England. His knock helped the Afghanistan team to register a great victory against the Jos Buttler-led side. Zadran became the first player from his country to score a hundred in the Champions Trophy.
Matt Henry and Varun Chakravarthy jointly hold the record for recording the best bowling figures in the Champions Trophy 2025. Both of them picked up a five-wicket haul while giving away 42 runs. Interestingly, the two players recorded the feat in the same match, and it was the first time in the history of ODIs that identical fifers were taken in a game.
Bowling first, Matt Henry led the Kiwi bowling attack impressively. The right-arm pacer picked up a fifer against a strong Indian batting lineup. In the second innings, it was time for some mystery spin as Varun Chakravarthy recorded his maiden five-wicket haul. Both bowlers are of different types, which just shows how the best players can perform on the biggest day, regardless of the pitch and conditions.
Rachin Ravindra scored the most hundreds in the Champions Trophy 2025. The opening batter for New Zealand smashed two hundreds in the tournament. His achievement is further special when you take into account that he missed the opening clash against Pakistan. It was a relatively flat pitch and a poor Pakistani bowling attack. It would have been a great opportunity for Ravindra to make a ton in that match as well.
Australian opening batter Matthew Short proved to be more useful than a part-time bowler in the Champions Trophy 2025. His off-spin bowling turned out to be a weapon for the stand-in skipper, Steve Smith. Short recorded the best bowling economy in the tournament as he bowled eight overs while conceding only 3.5 runs per over.
New Zealand recorded the highest team total in the Champions Trophy 2025. The Kiwi batters broke the record in one of the biggest matches of the tournament. It was the semi-final against South Africa when the Blackcaps scored 362 runs for the fall of six wickets. The score turned out to be pretty daunting for the Proteas, who lost the match by 50 runs in spite of a hundred by David Miller.
England recorded possibly their worst-ever performance in an ICC tournament, and that is saying a lot, given the track record of the English team in history. The Jos Buttler-led side was the first team to be eliminated from their group after losing the first two games against Australia and Afghanistan at Lahore. They met South Africa in their last game of the tournament and put on an embarrassing show being bowled out for a total of 179 runs.
KL Rahul had an exceptional time behind the stumps as he recorded six dismissals in the Champions Trophy 2025. The wicketkeeper took five catches and afflicted one stumping. He faced difficulty while keeping wickets against spinners but was exceptional when the pacers were bowling.
Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson took the joint-most catches in the Champions Trophy 2025. The two experienced players completed seven catches each in the tournament. Both Kohli and Williamson have faced each other consistently since meeting in the Under-19 World Cup in 2008. It is astonishing to see that the two batters are still competing for records, albeit in fielding.
The batting frenzy pitches in Pakistan saw many players and teams notching up record-breaking totals. Meanwhile, in Dubai, spinners find great assistance as low scores became the norm in the Indian matches. Multiple records were broken during the tournament, and it is possible that they remain unbroken for the foreseeable future.
Australia broke the record for the highest chase in the history of ICC tournaments. The two-time champions chased down a target of 352 runs against their rivals, England. The English team scored 351 runs in the first innings, thanks to a great knock by opening batter, Ben Duckett. Duckett, for a brief period, held the record for making the highest individual score in the history of the Champions Trophy.
In reply, the Australian batting lineup started on a sour note. They lost their most experienced batters, Travis Head and Steve Smith, with only 27 runs on the board. However, Josh Inglis put on a great display of batsmanship, scoring 120 runs while remaining not out. He received great support from Matthew Short, Marnus Labuschagne, and Alex Carey before Glenn Maxwell made the finishing touches. They chased down the mammoth total with five wickets remaining and 15 balls to spare.
Ibrahim Zadran broke the record for making the highest individual score in the Champions Trophy. The opening batter from Afghanistan made 177 runs against England to ethc the record to his name. However, it was not the first time the record was broken in the 2025 edition. A few days prior to Zadran’s special knock, Ben Duckett had made 165 runs to break the record.
Zadran’s knock of 177 runs was the first time a player from Afghanistan made a century in the Champions Trophy. He was also the first player from his country to score a ton in the ODI World Cup. His innings helped Afghanistan register a win against England.
