Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson are the two great champions of the game of cricket. Sachin Tendulkar is known as the God Of Cricket and the Master Blaster while the pace bowler of England, Jimmy Anderson is still regarded as the pure magician with the red cherry. England will play this series against India for the first time without their two premier pace bowlers, Stuart Broad and James Anderson.
The five match series between ENG Vs IND will be renamed on Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson. Now the trophy will be known as Tendulkar Anderson Trophy. The earlier name of this series was Pataudi Trophy. But now, the cricket boards of the BCCI and ECB (England Cricket Broad) have decided to name it after Tendulkar and Anderson.
These two cricket players, Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson are still the legends of this gentlemen’s game even after Tendulkar retired in 2013 and Anderson said goodbye to the game last year in 2024. Jimmy played 188 games in the red ball format while the Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar played 200 Test matches for the Men in Blue.
The upcoming red ball match series of the Tendulkar Anderson Trophy will be played under the new cycle of the World Test Championship (WTC) from 2025 to 2027. India had qualified for the finals of the first two WTC finals in 2021 and 2023. But this year, their series losses against New Zealand at home and versus the Aussies away didn’t allow them to play the third straight finals of this Test competition.
But England hasn’t qualified for the World Test Championship final even once till now. In this series, the home side, England will aim to do well and qualify for their first ever WTC Finals. Talking about the legends, Tendulkar and Anderson, they have met each other in the red ball format and Anderson has dismissed the Master Blaster the most time in Test match cricket.
Jimmy Anderson has got the big fish, the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar nine times in the red ball form of the game and five times in the one day international format. In all, Jimmy has sent Sachin to the pavilion for 14 times in International cricket. In Tests, Sachin has scored 208 runs with an average of 23.11. In ODIs, Tendulkar has amassed 140 runs with an average of 46.7.
These two legends, Tendulkar and Anderson did play the shortest form of the game and so, they didn’t have a face off. James Anderson didn’t play even one match in the T20 tournament, Indian Premier League. There are many legends and popular cricketers like Anderson, who didn’t participate in the IPL, which is an irony for that best league in the world.
The grand launch of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy was postponed due to the plane crash in Ahmedabad, where more than 250 people lost their lives. According to reports, it was believed that the launch was supposed to take place on the fourth day of the World Test Championship.
Both Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson were invited to the launch of the trophy, which was cancelled at the last minute in respect of the mood in India. While there are still some conversations taking place between the two boards when it comes to deciding the launch of the trophy, there is a chance that the event will be cancelled altogether.
While the Pataudi Trophy is expected to be renamed after Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson, there has been a slight change of plans when it comes to honouring Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi. Reportedly, Tendulkar requested both cricket boards to reconsider their decision of removing MAK Pataudi’s name from the trophy.
Jay Shah, the current chairman of the ICC and a former BCCI Secretary, also joined the discussions, ensuring that the Pataudi name is not removed from the trophy. One of the ECB officials confirmed that there are discussions going on as to how to retain Pataudi’s legacy in the contest between the two sides. The likely solution is for a medallion to be named after the legendary cricketer, which will be presented to the winning captain.
