India will play 18 red ball games during this period of the World Test Championship 2025 to 2027. But a formal announcement is yet to be made for those three series of the red ball form of the game.
India will be making a trip down south to their neighbouring island, Sri Lanka, in August 2026. The series will comprise two tests, and it will be their second away series of the cycle after starting with a five-match series in England. Given that it is a two-match series, it will be crucial for both teams to bring their A-game in both matches.
The schedule and venue for these two matches are yet to be determined. However, the series will be, in all likelihood, played in August 2026.
After Sri Lanka, India’s next away assignment will be in New Zealand. It has not been a great hunting ground for the visitors, having last won a test in the country in 2009. Since then, in six games in New Zealand, India has lost three matches while the remaining ended in draws. It will be the first time that India will face the Blackcaps in a test series after being handed an infamous white-wash at the hands of the Kiwis at home in late 2024.
The exact schedule and venue for the two-match series are yet to be announced. Meanwhile, it is expected that the matches will take place in October 2026.
Given that India and Australia have been the most consistent teams in the three seasons of the WTC, it will be a massive series for both teams and fans of test cricket. The five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India will be the last assignment for both teams before the WTC Final. It means that a few positive results could go a long way in qualifying for the final. It has been more than 20 years since Australia won a series in India. Having such dominance against one of the toughest teams in the history of the sport has been a great boon to India’s success over the years at home.
The schedule for the marquee five-match series has not been announced. But it is expected that the series will begin from January 2027 and could have a similar schedule to the England tour of India in 2024.
