To fulfill the need of handling the large crowd in 2004, the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium was built in an eastern suburb of Uppal, Hyderabad. In the beginning, the stadium was known as Visaka International Cricket Stadium Ground. Later, the former CM Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was the one who suggested naming the stadium after Rajiv Gandhi to honor the late Prime Minister. However, the venue is famous as “Uppal Stadium” among cricket fans. The home of the IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad can hold upto 38,000 cricket fans.
