Amit Mishra has the most hat trick in IPL. The veteran Indian spinner has three hat tricks to his name. His first hat trick came in the first season in 2008. Mishra playing for the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) took a hat trick against the Deccan Chargers. While defending 15 runs in the last over, Mishra dismissed Ravi Teja, Pragyan Ojha, and RP Singh on the first three balls to win the match for his team.
His second hat trick came when he was playing for Deccan Chargers against Kings XI Punjab. While defending a huge total of 199 runs his hat trick in the 16th over derailed the opposition. He dismissed Ryan McLaren, Mandeep Singh, and Ryan Harris to claim his second hat trick.
His third hat trick came for another different team in 2013 when he was playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad. This time, Mishra and his team were defending a low total of 119 against the Pune Warriors India. PWI needed only 14 runs in the last two overs when Mishra came on to bowl. He dismissed Angelo Mathews on the second ball. On the last three balls of his over he dismissed Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rahul Sharma, and Ashok Dinda to pick four wickets in the over and win the match for his side.
Yuvraj Singh is the second bowler to take more than one hat trick. The World Cup-winning all-rounder is the only bowler in the history of the IPL to pick two hat tricks in the same season. Yuvraj achieved this feat in the second season in 2009. Yuvraj’s first hat trick came in the first innings against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He dismissed Robin Uthappa and Jacques Kallis on the last two balls of the 12th over. He returned to bowl the 14th over and dismissed Mark Boucher on the first ball of the over to complete the hat trick. Unfortunately for Yuvraj, his hat trick was not enough to win the match for his team.
His second hat trick of the season came against the Deccan Chargers. Defending a total of 134, Yuvraj dismissed Herschelle Gibbs on the last of the 12th over. He dismissed Andrew Symonds and Venugopal Rao on the first two balls of his next over to complete the hat trick. His hat trick was really important as his team, Kings XI Punjab won the match by only one run.

Apart from Amit Mishra and Yuvraj Singh, 17 bowlers have taken a hat trick once in the IPL. Balaji was the first player to take a hat trick in IPL. Playing for Chennai Super Kings, Balaji created history by picking up the first hat trick against Kings XI Punjab in Chennai. Balaji picked up a hat trick in the last over dismissing Irfan Pathan, Piyush Chawla, and Vikram Singh. His hat trick along with his two other wickets helped CSK to win the match by 18 runs.
Makhaya Ntini was the first overseas player to take a hat trick in the IPL. Ntini while playing for CSK picked up a hat trick against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2008. The South African pacer dismissed Sourav Ganguly in the fifth over of the first innings. He came back to bowl in the death overs. Ntini dismissed Debabrata Das and David Hussey on the first two balls of the 17th over. His hat trick along with some rain helped the five-time champions to register a win against the three-time champions.
The T20 World Cup-winning skipper, Rohit Sharma too has taken a hat trick in IPL. The current Indian team captain is known for his shots and sixes. Rohit was quite a bowler early in his playing career. Playing for Deccan Chargers, Rohit picked up a hat trick against the Mumbai Indians in 2009. Interestingly, Rohit has been a five-time IPL-winning captain for Mumbai Indians. Sharma dismissed Abhishek Nayar and Harbhajan Singh on the last two balls of the 16th over. He dismissed JP Duminy on the first of the 17th over to claim a hat trick. His all-round performance helped his team to win the match by 19 runs.
There have been 12 Indian bowlers who have picked up a hat trick in IPL. Amit Mishra has the most hat tricks in IPL for an Indian bowler. The veteran leg spinner has taken three hat tricks. Yuvraj Singh with two hat tricks to his name is the only bowler to take more than one hat trick in a single season.
Lakshmipathy Balaji was the first Indian bowler to take a hat trick in the IPL in 2008. Rohit Sharma and Praveen Kumar picked hat tricks in 2009 and 2010 respectively. Ajit Chandila, Pravin Tambe, and Axar Patel picked up hat tricks in 2012, 2014, and 2016 respectively. The last four Indian bowlers to pick a hat trick in the IPL are Jaydev Unadkat in 2017, Shreyas Gopal in 2019, Harshal Patel in 2021, and Yuzvendra Chahal in 2022.
Lakshmipathy Balaji took the first hat trick in IPL history in 2008 while playing for Chennai Super Kings against Kings XI Punjab. CSK scored 181 runs in the first innings with crucial contributions from Subramaniam Badrinath and MS Dhoni.
When Balaji came in to bowl, he made an impact by dismissing Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shaun Marsh early in the game. The real magic happened in the final over. Balaji bowled a slower delivery on the third ball that dismissed Irfan Pathan, who was playing well at 40 off 18 balls. Pathan mistimed his shot and got out.
The next wicket came as Piyush Chawla tried to hit a six but ended up giving an easy catch to Chamara Kapugedera. To complete his hattrick, Balaji bowled a short delivery, which was edged by Vikram Singh into the hands of MS Dhoni.
This hat trick not only ensured a win for CSK but also Balaji entered the IPL history books as the first bowler to achieve the feat.
