Once again it was the Indian run machine, Virat Kohli who topped the charts for scoring the most runs in IPL 2024. It showed how cricket is a team as, in spite of scoring the most runs in IPL 2024, Kohli and RCB were eliminated in the playoffs. Ruturaj Gaikwad who was captaining Chennai Super Kings for the first time too had a great season with the bat in hand even though his team did not reach the playoffs.

Virat Kohli has been the undisputed run-scorer in the IPL. He has scored the most runs in the IPL history. It looks as if his record will stay with him for a long time. The RCB batter has scored 8,004 runs and sits at the top of the list comfortably with next best being close to 1300 runs behind. Kohli has been great with the bat in hand but even the Indian batter would like to feel his hands on the IPL title. A trophy which has eluded him for so long.
The recently retired Shikhar Dhawan ranks second on the list for the most runs in IPL history. Dhawan has scored 6769 runs in the marquee league. He holds the record for hitting the most fours. Unlike Virat, Dhawan has won the IPL trophy once with SRH in 2016. There are chances that he might be overtaken by other batters as he has retired.

3. Rohit Sharma (6628 runs)
Rohit Sharma with 6628 runs to his name is third on this list. The five-time IPL-winning captain has often blown hot and cold with the bat in hand. In spite of not having a great average, the Indian batter has played many match-winning innings. With Dhawan retired, Rohit will aim for the second spot on this list. He just needs 142 runs to overtake Dhawan’s tally of 6769 runs. Sharma could end the IPL 2025 season as the second-highest run-scorer in IPL history.
The first overseas player to make it into this list is David Warner. Warner has scored the most runs in IPL history as an overseas batter. The left-handed batter has scored 6565 runs in the IPL. His consistency at the top of the order is commendable and is reflected by his average. Warner has an average of 40.52 which is the highest among the top-ten run scorers. With age catching on him, Warner is close to the end of his illustrious IPL career which included a title with SRH in 2016.
Suresh Raina was one of the earliest greats of the IPL. Known as Mr. IPL, Raina scored 5528 runs while playing for Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Lions. His contributions played a huge role in CSK’s success. Raina was part of CSK when they won the IPL four times. Even though he has left the IPL for almost three years, the fans still love the left-handed batter.
When talking about the Indian batters, Virat Kohli tops the list for the most runs by an Indian player in IPL history. While the list pretty much remains similar to the list of most runs in IPL, players like KL Rahul, Ajinkya Rahane and Sanju Samson have made an entry. MS Dhoni has moved up a spot. Dhoni too is unlikely to play for a long time there is a very low chance that he will overtake Suresh Raina in this list but with a few more runs to his tally, he can solidify his position for the future. Robin Uthappa and Dinesh Karthik have risen by two sports. Both the wicketkeeper batters have retired from IPL and most probably will be overtaken by a few players including KL Rahul.
