IPL 2025 Live Points Table after Every Match

You can get immediate and real-time updates of the current position of the teams with The IPL 2025 Live Points Table without fail. This table demonstrates the performance of the various teams based on the various metrics.

For example, in the IPL league table, you will mostly find the following familiar things:

  • Team: The franchise name (e.g., Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings)

  • Matches Played (Mat): Total games played so far.

  • Wins (W): Number of victories.

  • Losses (L): Number of defeats.

  • No Result (NR): Matches abandoned (e.g., due to rain.)

  • Points (Pts): Total points earned (2 for a win, 1 for a no result, 0 for a loss)

  • Net Run Rate (NRR): A performance indicator based on run rates scored and conceded.

Through points, teams are ranked in the order of (1st being at the top). In case the points are equal, NRR comes into the picture as the decider (higher NRR means higher rank). Every time a match is played, the IPL points table is updated in a way that becomes the most recent one. Thus, the fans are always up-to-date with the standings today.

How IPL Points Table Works

The IPL Points Table is not just any old table; it is a representation of the game, strategy, skill, and staying power. The following is its operation:

  • League Stage: Every team plays 14 matches

  • Points System:

    • Win: 2 points.

    • Tie: A superover decides the winner (2 points for the winner, 0 for the loser).

    • No Result: 1 point each if a match is abandoned without play (e.g., due to rain).

  • Ranking: The teams get their places according to the number of points they score. Ties are broken by:

    1. Having a better Net Run Rate (NRR).

    2. More wins (if NRR is equal).

    3. Fewer losses (if still tied).

    4. Head-to-head results.

    5. Rare cases may use a bowl-out.

The NRR is calculated as:

NRR = (Total Runs Scored/Total Overs Faced) - (Total Runs Conceded/Total Overs Bowled)

For example, if a team scores 180 in 20 overs and concedes 160 in 20 overs:

NRR = (180/20) - (160/20) = 9.0 - 8.0 = 1.0

The cumulative NRR across all matches can make or break a team’s session, especially in the tight races for playoffs.

IPL 2025 Playoff Qualification Rules

You can determine the four teams advancing to the playoffs by the IPL 2025 Points Table

Here is how qualification and the playoff structure work:

  1. Qualifier 1: The top two teams face off. The winner goes straight to the final.

  2. Eliminator: Teams ranked third and fourth compete. The loser exits the tournament.

  3. Qualifier 2: The Qualifier 1 loser meets the Eliminator winner. The victor advances to the final.

  4. Final: The Qualifier 1 winner battles the Qualifier 2 winner for the title.

The top two finishers get a double chance—if they lose Qualifier 1, they can still reach the final via Qualifier 2. For third and fourth, it’s a do-or-die path requiring two straight wins.

How many matches does each IPL team play?

In IPL 2025, each of the ten teams will play 14 league-stage matches, totalling 70 matches before the playoffs. The schedule ensures balance:

  • Group Format: Teams are split into two groups of five (based on past performance or IPL council decisions).

  • Match Breakdown:

    • Twice against teams in their group.

    • Once against teams in the other group.

    • One additional match against a specific cross-group team.

For example, in IPL 2022:

This format keeps the competition fair and exciting.

Teams with the Most No.1 Finishes in League Stage History

Not many franchises have dominated the league stages by topping the points table year by year in the Indian Premier League (IPL), with teams only facing tough competition in the previous years. These repeated top finishes are not just a question of strength but steadiness, strategy, and depth in the team. A closer look here at the franchises that have topped the league stage at No.1 more than once in IPL history:

4. Gujarat Titans

Having just entered the IPL, the Gujarat Titans have already made a statement by topping the league table twice in a span of a few years. Their capable leadership, shrewd auction pick, and aggressive cricket render them a team to look out for in the future.

3. Delhi Daredevils

Even though they had seen their seasons see-saw, the Delhi Daredevils had topped the table twice. The performances were in seasons when their young core and aggressive cricketing style yielded the results. And in the current Delhi Daredevils are not continuing to play IPL after 2018.

2. Chennai Super Kings

Famed for their serene equanimity and master strategist game plan, the Chennai Super Kings have topped the No.1 position twice in the league stages. Led by ever-reliable MS Dhoni, CSK's ability to play under pressure has made them one of the most revered franchises in IPL history.

1. Mumbai Indians

The Mumbai Indians are the best of the best as the table-toppers in the league stage, to take the table by storm. With four top-table performances, they have been a vision of solidity and dependability. With Rohit Sharma leading them, their league-stage domination has always translated to the playoffs as well, so much so that they are one of the most dreaded teams in the tournament.
