With Matt Short and Alex Carey signed until BBL|17, the Strikers may target new batters, with Head, Lynn, and D'Arcy Short off-contract and Weatherald moving to the Hurricanes. Their first BBL|15 signing was Jason Sangha from the Thunder on a two-year deal. Jamie Overton returns for a third season and is expected to be available unless picked for England’s Sri Lanka tour.
The Heat re-signed top run-scorer Matthew Renshaw on a three-year deal and locked in young talents Hugh Weibgen and Lachlan Hearne. Despite a tough title defence, they kept key players like Xavier Bartlett and Max Bryant (until BBL|18) and Spencer Johnson (until BBL|17). Rising stars Callum Vidler and Nathan McSweeney also re-signed through BBL|16. However, Marnus Labuschagne hasn’t signed yet, and Mitch Swepson has moved to the Stars.
Head coach Jeff Vaughan is hopeful of keeping big-hitting Tim David, a top free agent likely to attract strong interest. The Hurricanes have secured key players like Nathan Ellis, Riley Meredith, Mitch Owen, Nikhil Chaudhary, Ben McDermott, and veteran Matthew Wade through BBL|17. They've added Beau Webster and Jake Weatherald, while Caleb Jewell has been traded to the Renegades to free up salary space.
The Renegades made a big move by signing Jason Behrendorff from the Scorchers, pairing him with BBL|14 standout Tom Rogers. They also added quick Brendan Dogett from the Strikers and top-order batter Caleb Jewell from the Hurricanes. Young talent Harry Dixon re-signed on a two-year deal after interest from rival clubs.
At the end of BBL|14, Melbourne Stars had the fewest players signed for next season but quickly re-signed fast bowler Liam Hatcher on a two-year deal after his time with the Thunder. Key players like captain Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Scott Boland, Hilton Cartwright, Tom Curran, and veteran Peter Siddle are all set to return. With Paris and Steketee available, other teams could show interest, and coach Peter Moores’ contract also expired.
The Scorchers re-signed T20 captain Mitch Marsh for three years, with Marsh committed to staying loyal and taking a bigger role. The team is focusing on youth after missing finals, keeping key players like Ashton Turner and strong bowlers returning. Veteran Behrendorff left for the Renegades, Andrew Tye’s future is unclear, and Joel Paris came back as a replacement. The Scorchers also want a reliable opening batter to partner Finn Allen.
Despite another early finals loss, the Sixers kept most key players for BBL|15, including captain Moises Henriques and Steve Smith. They hope to sign young keeper Lachlan Shaw after March. Veterans Jackson Bird, Daniel Hughes, and stars Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc are out of contract and free agents.
Sydney Thunder have re-signed key players Tanveer Sangha and Cameron Bancroft until BBL|17. Captain David Warner and Sam Konstas return for BBL|15. Sam Billings and Chris Green are locked in until BBL|16. Nic Maddinson, Matt Gilkes, and Blake Nikitaras are free agents. Liam Hatcher left for the Stars, and Jason Sangha joined the Strikers. Coach Trevor Bayliss is expected to stay after reaching the Final.
