Moghees Ahmed is considered one of the most well-known agents of Pakistani cricketers. He has represented many former and current players like former captain Misbah-ul-Haq, former star spinner Saeed Ajmal and current fast bowler Naseem Shah. Through him, many players have also had opportunities to play county cricket.
According to a report by Telecom Asia Sport, the Disciplinary Tribunal has found Moghees Ahmed guilty of making a corrupt offer to a coach to influence the selection of players in county cricket. According to this offer, Ahmed was willing to give a part of his commission to the coach in return for the coach giving the players represented by him a chance to play in the franchise league.
Chris Haward, the ECB’s Cricket Regulator, released a statement underscoring the seriousness of the offence: “Moghees Ahmed sought to engage a professional county coach in a corrupt scheme which would have had serious consequences for the integrity of cricket in England and Wales and beyond. This lengthy ban truly reflects the seriousness of the conspiracy hatched by Ahmed. Offering, demanding or accepting illegal financial inducements for selection is never acceptable, and it undermines the integrity of our game. Where corrupt conduct is suspected, it will be investigated and those responsible will be held to account.”
According to the ECB, the coach immediately reported the proposal, after which an investigation began. Moghees Ahmed was temporarily suspended in March 2025. Now the tribunal has imposed a ban of five years on him, out of which at least 30 months of the punishment will come into effect immediately. The rest of the punishment will depend on his good behaviour.
