Although James Anderson was also present in the list of the draft system held in March, unfortunately, no team could include him then. Recently, he returned to T20 cricket after a decade when he was seen playing for Lancashire Lightning in the Vitality Blast Men 2025. He performed brilliantly and took 14 wickets in eight matches at an average of 16.07. In these eight innings, he took three wickets thrice while he remained wicketless only once.
After playing 3 matches of Vitality Blast Men 2025, he said that currently he only plays a few matches, but his opinion about T20 cricket has changed very quickly. He feels that he could have played a little more T20 cricket in the last 10 years. However, he did not want any change in his test cricket career. Coming back to T20 cricket after a long time and performing well right away shows how much passion he still has for cricket. After joining Manchester in The Hundred, Anderson said, “I'm really looking forward to the Hundred, and I'm really happy to be part of the Manchester Originals squad. I've loved my time with Lancaster this season, so I'm excited to have the opportunity to add value in The Hundred.”
Apart from Anderson, another name that was much discussed in the Wild-Card Draft was the son of Andrew Flintoff, Rocky Flintoff. He has been included in the Northern Superchargers, whose head coach is his father, Andrew. Southern Brave became the first team to include an overseas player in the team through a ‘wild-card'. They added Australian Hilton Cartwright to their squad.
Anderson has taken 269 wickets in 194 matches in his ODI career. He also took 18 wickets in 19 matches in his T20 career. He played his last international T20 match against South Africa in Centurion in 2009. But he has achieved greatness in Test cricket, where he has taken 704 wickets in 188 matches, due to which he became the highest wicket taker among the fast bowlers, while being the overall third highest wicket taker in Test Cricket. He had earlier participated in the NatWest T20 Blast 2014, after which he did not play any T20 match in any league till 2025.
Let us tell you that Manchester Originals is the same team in which the IPL team Lucknow Super Giants' owner, Sanjiv Goenka, also has a stake. After joining Manchester, James Anderson will now be seen playing with the best players of T20 cricket, like Josh Butler, Heinrich Klaasen, and Phil Salt. His team also has young cricketers like Rachin Ravindra, Noor Ahmed, who have earned a good name in the cricket world at a young age. Marchant de Lange has joined the team in Manchester as the second 'wild-card' draft entry. Certainly, Anderson's cricket experience will be very useful for the team and also for the excellent young players.
