Skipper Ajinkya Rahane tried to calm down Jaiswal but nothing worked as Jaiswal continued to sledge the South Zone batters. Then finally Rahane had to take a firm stand as he sent Jaiswal off the field for interdisciplinary behavior. Yashasvi was clearly angry and frustrated and some reports say he kicked the kitbag of skipper Ajinkya Rahane in the dressing room. Though the MCA didn’t confirm the incidents but nowadays in the era social media leaks always happens The video became viral when Jaiswal wanted to change his Ranji team from Mumbai to Goa. The decision to relocate from Mumbai to Goa was personal citing family reasons but insiders disclosed the main reason was the friction in the Mumbai dressing room. The relationship was not the same between Jaiswal and all the senior players especially with the captain Ajinkya Rahane.
Jaiswal’s decision to relocate from Mumbai to Goa did not go well with several former cricketers and pundits of Mumbai cricket especially. Wasim Jaffer, a former India opener and a Mumbai legend thinks Jaiswal shouldn’t leave Mumbai at such a young age. A player can certainly move out when he is 34-35 years old but not now.
Jaffer himself moved from Mumbai Ranji team to Vidarbha Ranji team but in his last phase of his career. “ I was surprised and shocked for him to go and play for Goa. First of all, whatever Goa was offering him, you don’t leave Mumbai especially at this age, it’s okay if somebody is 34-35 and then you want to go out”. Jaffer said to ESPNCricinfo. Jaffer stated “ I’m actually surprised. First of all, he shouldn’t be looking at playing in the Ranji Trophy. He should be looking to play for India in all three formats. That should be his focus.”
Reportedly now he has made a U- turn and wants to return to Mumbai. He has requested the Mumbai Cricket Association to let him play for Mumbai. The MCA has informed they will take a decision regarding this during their upcoming Apex Council meeting probably after two weeks. Reportedly Jaiswal has written a letter to MCA stating that earlier his parents wanted to move to Goa permanently but now the plans have changed and they live in Mumbai. “I, the undersigned, would request your goodself to consider my request in withdrawing my NOC given to me as I have some family plans in shifting to Goa which for now has been curtailed! So I sincerely request MCA to allow me to play for Mumbai this season. I haven't submitted the NOC to the BCCI nor to Goa Cricket Association” stated Jaiswal in the letter.
Now the controversy erupts, why would someone want to leave a team like Mumbai in the first place. And the Mumbai Ranji team has given the identity to Jaiswal when no one knowed him. And now suddenly he has changed his mind and decided to stay with Mumbai. Apparently Jaiswal just one month ago, asked for an NOC ( Non Objection Certificate) to move from Mumbai to Goa. The MCA has informed that Jaiswal has written a formal letter to them but MCA is in no hurry to take a decision on this as there is a domestic match in the upcoming days.
Now another controversy is sledging is not something usual or normal instrument in a cricket match. Sometimes it is taken use of by some teams especially the Aussies against players or teams to dictate a critical course of the match but in this case of a domestic match featuring Jaiswal, it was apparently unnecessary. In addition Jaiswal is too young a player to indulge in such practices. The issue is shouldn't such young players concentrate more on performance and capacity building rather than indulging in such cheap tactics.
Promising talents like Jaiswal have got to secure their position with consistent performances and not indulge in diverting methods other than cricketing methods a little too early in their career. In the domestic circuit, sledging and verbally abusing players of your own country is also an issue in itself. Of course there has to be a control on this and Rahane did exactly what was needed at that moment to contain Jaiswal. This controversy also involves this factor.
Jaiswal is involved in the IPL which is currently suspended due India- Pakistan escalating tensions. Jaiswal started the IPL with some average performances but now he has picked up the rate and performing consistently as he is the leading runs scorer for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025. Ahead India will play a test match series against England in England. Jaiswal's form will be extremely crucial if India has any chance of winning in England.
In fact, both the openers need to perform extremely well for India to win overseas conditions. With Rohit Sharma retiring from test cricket, now the burden of scoring runs entirely falls on youngsters like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Subhman Gill and of course the experienced Virat Kohli. Jaiswal is the future star of Indian cricket and seen as a long term player and given the early success he had in International cricket, he could become the next big thing in Indian cricket if he maintains discipline.
