The common trend you can see in the list of players with most IPL fifties is their strike rate. Most players have been playing IPL for more then a decade and has a strike rate in around 130s. Four names in the top 15 that have higher strike rates are Chris Gayle, Suryakumar Yadav, AB de Villiers, Jos Buttler, with Buttler being the star of the last few IPLs. Majority of batters in this list are openers. Only AB de Villiers and Surya Kumar Yadav are the middle order batters.
KL Rahul has the fifth most fifties in the IPL. The former right-handed batter has been one of the best batters in the league. He has been one of the very few players to have not only played for four teams but have found immense success while doing so. With 40 fifties to his name, Rahul has been a solid top-order batter over the years. He holds the record for scoring 5000 runs in the least number of innings (130). He is the only player to have scored centuries for three different teams in the IPL.
Rohit Sharma has been a stalwart in white-ball cricket; however, in spite of scoring the fourth-most half-centuries in IPL, he has struggled to make a significant mark in the IPL. The right-handed batter averages below 30 and also has a middling strike rate of only 131. He has scored 46 fifties in the IPL and is pretty close to becoming the second player to score 7000 runs in the tournament.
Shikhar Dhawan was one of the finest openers in the Indian Premier League. Like Rohit, Dhawan, in spite of racking up fifties in the marquee league, struggled to translate his international form in IPL. Having played for as many as five teams, the left-handed batter scored 51 half-centuries. His inability to hit sixes prevented the opening batter from scoring at a quicker pace.
David Warner is one of the best players in the history of the league. For a long period of time, the Australian batter held the record for scoring the most half-centuries. He has 62 fifties, despite playing his last game in 2024. What makes Warner stand apart from the rest of the opening batters is his steady average while going at a strike rate of close to 140.
Virat Kohli, like most batting records in the IPL, tops the list for scoring the most fifties. The former RCB skipper holds the record for scoring the most runs and centuries. He scored eight fifties in IPL 2025 and overtook Warner on the list of scoring the most half-centuries. It was his stellar record that allowed the Royal Challengers Bengaluru to not only make it to the playoffs but also finish in second place in the points table.
Virat Kohli has scored the most number of fifties for a single team in the IPL. The right-handed batter has scored 63 half-centuries for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He is followed on the list by David Warner, who has scored 40 fifties for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The left-handed batter appears twice on the list, having scored the most fifties for Delhi Capitals. Along with Warner, KL Rahul has also scored the most fifties for two teams. The right-handed batter made 23 half-centuries for Punjab Kings and 10 for Lucknow Super Giants.
The list also features some stalwarts like Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina, and Gautam Gambhir. Rohit has scored 38 fifties for Mumbai Indians, while Raina has scored 33 half-centuries for Chennai Super Kings. Three-time IPL-winning captain Gambhir scored 27 fifties for KKR. Sanju Samson with 23 for the Rajasthan Royals and Shubman Gill with 16 for Gujarat Titans rank seventh and ninth, respectively, for scoring the most fifties for a team in the IPL.
Virat Kohli has scored the most fifties in IPL 2025. The right-handed batter has scored eight fifties in the season, which is the record for most half-centuries in a single season. Kohli is followed by Mitchel Marsh on the list. The Australian batter had his best season in the IPL and scored six half-centuries along with a hundred. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, too, have scored six fifties in the season.
