Gill broke the top records during his brilliant innings of 269

Indian Test Captain Shubman Gill has broken the records of many great players with his best test inning in the second match against England, while equalling some important records as well. He has broken some records of great batsmen like Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, and Rahul Dravid. Gill matched a few records of players like Chris Gayle, Rohit Sharma, and Virender Sehwag. Let's take a look at some of Gill's records, which he has broken or equaled.

Highest individual score by an Indian Captain in Tests

Shubham Gill has broken the big record of Virat Kohli and made it his own just two matches after becoming the captain of the test team. Breaking the record of the most successful captain in Indian test cricket history so quickly shows how safe the future of the Indian test team is in his hands. Earlier, this record was in the name of Virat Kohli, who scored 254* runs against South Africa in Pune in 2019.

Highest individual score by an Indian batter in a test outside of Asia

The newly appointed test skipper also broke Sachin Tendulkar's record for the highest score outside Asia by an Indian. Sachin played a brilliant inning of 241 runs against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 2004. While Rahul Dravid is on third place in this list, he played an inning of 233 runs against Australia in Adelaide. Gill broke the 21-year-old record by scoring 269 runs in the second test of the Anderson Tendulkar Trophy, 2025.

Second youngest Indian captain to score a double hundred

Shubham Gill has broken another record of Sachin Tendulkar with this century. Now he has become the second youngest Indian captain to score a double century in tests. Earlier, Sachin Tendulkar had this record when he played an innings of 217 runs against New Zealand at the age of 26 years & 189 days. However, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi is still in first place. MAK Pataudi played a 203-run innings against England in Delhi in 1964 at the age of just  23 years & 29 days.

Third-highest score by an Indian batter in an away test

With this excellent inning, Gill has reached the third position in the list of those who made the highest score outside India. Now only Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid are ahead of him. Sehwag had played an inning of 309 runs against Pakistan in Multan, similarly, Rahul Dravid had also played an innings of 270 runs against Pakistan in Rawalpindi. After which it is now Shubham Gill's 269-run innings, which were played outside India.

Third Indian batter to score a double-hundred in England

With this double hundred, Shubham Gill has also equaled the records of great Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid, which they made in England. Before Gill, only Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid were the Indian cricketers who had managed to score a double-hundred in England. While Sunil Gavaskar achieved this feat in 1979 by scoring 221 runs, Rahul Dravid made this record in 2002 by scoring 217 runs.

Shubman Gill has also succeeded in registering his name among those selected players who have scored double-hundreds in both Test and ODI formats. Before this, only a few players had achieved the feat of scoring a double century in both ODIs and Tests. Gill has included his name with players like Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma and Chris Gayle, whom very few players have been able to reach.

Gill has reached seventh place in the list of the highest scorers by Indians. While Virender Sehwag is at the top of this list with a brilliant innings of 319 runs against South Africa, apart from him, there are also brilliant players like Karun Nair, VVS Laxman, and Rahul Dravid on this list.
