Kolkata Knight Riders Overview 

Kolkata Knight Riders have a very good home record and this is one of the key reasons for their success as well. This featured many excellent players like Gautam Gambhir, Manish Pandey , Robin Uthappa, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Shreyas Iyer and Mitchell Starc.This season in the absence of Gautam Gambhir in the coaching staff KKR will be under the guidance of Chandrakant Pandit and led by Mumbai legend Ajinkya Rahane in the fetch of their 4th IPL title.

• Highest Team Total - 272/7 against the Delhi Capitals at the ACA - VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam on April 3 , 2024.

• 2012 - It looked like the Chennai Super Kings are going get a hat trick of title victory but Kolkata Knight Riders didn't let that happen and defeated the 2 times champions in an exciting final match kudos to a crucial innings by Manvinder Bisla and Piyush Chawla. KKR won their first ever IPL title in chennai by defeating the home team Chennai Super Kings.

• 2014 - It was Kolkata Knight Riders vs Punjab Kings ( KXIP) in the final and Punjab came into the finals with a great momentum and they played well. They put up a huge target in front of KKR on the back of brilliant Hundred by Wridhaman Saha but Knights didn't back out and chased the target comfortably kudos to crucial knock by Manish Pandey. KKR won their 2nd title and became the 2nd team to win two IPL titles 

• 2024 - After a decade of failures, Knights entered the final one more time in a fetch of their 3rd IPL title led by Shreyas Iyer. Sunrisers Hyderabad who looked like a team to beat this season didn't have much success against the Knights . It was a one sided final and KKR wrapped up the final easily and lifted their 3rd IPL title

Kolkata Knight Riders is owned by Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan and Jay Mehta . The team was purchased for a whooping 262.5 crores . Kolkata Knight Riders featured some great players like Sourav Ganguly , Brendon Mccullum, Chris Gayle, Shoaib Akhtar and Gautam Gambhir. Knight Riders didn't have much success in the first few years of the IPL but their fortunes changed when captain Gautam Gambhir arrived into the setup. His stellar performance with the bat and pinpoint captaincy brought a self belief back in the KKR camp.

Gautam Gambhir played a crucial role in the success of Kolkata Knight Riders .He played as a captain and led them to two IPL titles and was mentor of the team when they won in 2024. Gautam was clearly involved and made crucial decisions for the franchise as a mentor. His was equally supported by Robin Uthappa in the early stages of his captaincy career, Gautam also backed players like Sunil Narine and he later on became one of biggest match winner in the history of KKR .

Kolkata Knight Riders have a huge fan following initially because of their owner Shah Rukh Khan but after the team started winning the love this franchise kept on increasing . The Eden Gardens Kolkata which is home ground of Kolkata Knight Riders is seen wrapped in purple everything KKR plays there . Kolkata Knight Riders started their IPL campaign in a very explosive way as they defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the first ever IPL match . Brendon Mccullum smashed 158* and single handedly stole the victory from RCB .

2008 - Sixth 

P - 13 , W - 6 , L - 7 

After a fiery start to their campaign kudos to Mccullum’s 158* It looked like Kolkata Knight Riders have a perfect squad for this format but they couldn't capitalise on the start and lost 4 games in a row . Despite some serious efforts by skipper Sourav Ganguly KKR couldn't make it into the top 4 in the inaugural year.

2009 - Eight

P - 13 , W - 3 , L - 10

After a poor season in the first year KKR entered the season with a mindset to change things around . But after a defeat in their 3rd match Kolkata Knight Riders lost 8 matches in a row which broke their dreams of qualifying in the top 4 . After consolation win in their last game KKR managed to win only 3 matches this season.

2010 - Sixth

P - 14, W - 7, L - 7

Local boy Sourav Ganguly was retained as the captain despite poor performance in the first two season .He was the only lone warrior this season and scored 493 runs for the KKR but their poor NRR proved to be costly for the Knights.

2011 - Fourth 

P - 15 , W - 8 , L - 7

This season was a breakthrough season for Kolkata Knight Riders as a new-look team which featured Gautam Gambhir, Yusuf Pathan, Manoj Tiwary and L balaji . Gautam managed to get the best of his players and KKR played like a team for the first time . Which eventually led to qualification of KKR for the first time in their history. 

2012 - Champions

P - 17 , W - 12 , L - 5

Kolkata Knight Riders were the defending champions but they didn't live up to their fans expectations. Sunil Narine topped the bowling charts but didn't receive the desired support from his teammates.

2014 - Champions 

P - 16 , W - 11 , L - 5

It was Kolkata Knight Riders vs Punjab Kings ( KXIP) in the final and Punjab came into the finals with a great momentum and they played well. This season was known for KKRs bowlers Morne Morkel, Piyush Chawla and Umesh Yadav came together to become a deadly bowling unit. KKR needed to win their last two league matches in order to qualify for the playoffs but unfortunately they couldn't win a single game. 

2016 - Fourth 

P - 15 , W - 8 , L - 7

Kallis arrived as the new head coach for KKR and this season Andre Russell was in form of his life but didn't get the support needed from the other batters apart from Yusuf Pathan. KKR was knocked out by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the playoffs who went on to become champions that season. 

2017 - Third 

P - 16 , W - 9 , L - 7

Kolkata Knight Riders was a team to beat this season , they had a great batting order. Sunil Narine , Chris Lynn , Gautam Gambhir and Robin Uthappa all contributed in crucial stages but it was not enough for the Knights as they were knocked out in the playoffs .

2018 - Third 

P - 16 , W - 9 , L - 7

Chris Lynn , Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik were smacking bowlers for fun in this season. Andre Russell was looking almost unstoppable this season but an inexperienced bowling lineup cost KKR . They were knocked by Sunrisers again in the playoffs.

2019 - Fifth 

P - 14 , W - 6 , L - 8

KKR lost six games consecutively this season but Russell continued his form and the promotion of Youngster Shubman Gill in the top order worked well for the Knights . But it was a very poor season for the Kolkata Knight Riders.

2020 - Fifth

P - 14 , W - 7 , L- 7

In the covid affected season KKR didn't really have any momentum throughout the season . Captain Dinesh Karthik handed over the Captaincy to Eoin Morgan after seven matches. But this drama proved to be too much for the Knights and they failed to qualify in 2nd season consecutively.

2021 - Runners Up 

P - 17 , W - 9 , L - 8

This season was played in two halves, one in India and another in UAE . KKR didn't perform well in India and nobody gave them any chances but when IPL shifted to UAE. The inclusion Venkatesh Iyer and Varun Chakravarthy gave new life to the team and they went to face CSK in the finals but unfortunately couldn't cross the finishing line.

2022 - Seventh 

P - 14 , W - 6 , L - 8

After a successful season last year a lot of hopes relied on Knights to perform well in this season as well but they choked under pressure . KKR lost some of the games which were in their hands and all this factors resulted in another poor season for the Knight Riders.

2023 - Seventh 

P - 14 , W - 6 , L - 8

Nitish Rana was appointed as the skipper in the absence of Shreyas Iyer and it was a good season for Nitish as well but the highlight of the season was Rinku Singh hitting five sixes in an over against Gujarat Titans to win the match. This season proved to be a breakthrough season for Rinku Singh but the team didn't managed to get in the top 4. 

2024 - Champions 

P - 15 , W - 11 , L - 4

After a decade of failures, Knights entered the final one more time in a fetch of their 3rd IPL title led by Shreyas Iyer. Sunrisers Hyderabad who looked like a team to beat this season didn't have much success against the Knights .
