Before IPL, Devon Conway started with a domestic career, having played for Wellington in New Zealand.  Soon, debuted in the National New Zealand team for his ability to play different formats both in Test and Short and limited-overs cricket. He made his IPL entry after his terrific batting prowess in International cricket for the New Zealand Team. In the Indian Premier League, Devon Conway made his debut with the Chennai Super Kings in 2022. 34-year-old Devon Conway is a Kiwi top player who can do both batting and wicket keeping as well. Conway is a left-handed batter and occasionally a right-arm medium bowler. In the 2021 IPL auction, Devon Conway was bought by the Chennai franchise for his base price of INR 1 Cr. However, he couldn't make it to the XI in his first season and skipped his first season. He was finally picked up by Chennai Super Kings as a replacement for Suresh Raina, who was ruled out because of an injury in the latter half of the IPL. He played his first game against the Kolkata Knight Riders, scoring 3 runs in 2022. But that was it for Conway, and he didn’t stop from there.  His partnership with current captain Ruturaj Gaikwad topped the list and became the highlight of the season. In his debut 2022 IPL season, Conway played 7 matches, scoring 252 runs with a highest score of 87 and three half-centuries.

This ability earned the trust of former captain MS Dhoni and the team. Plus, his adaptability, stability, and experience in T20 games convinced the franchise that Devon Conway would be a perfect fit for the squad.

After a competitive bidding contest with the Punjab Kings, the Chennai franchise successfully acquired one of their top performers of the 2023 season. Devon Conway was the top performer of CSK and third in the scoreboard for the most runs for the season.

So far, Devon Conway has shown progress since his debut in the 2022 season, except in 2024 when he withdrew from the season. During the T20 International cricket, Conway fractured his left thumb and was ruled out of the IPL 2024 season.
