The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have done it. With 5 wins in 5 games and a massive Net Run Rate (NRR) of +1.882, Smriti Mandhana’s team has become the first to officially book a spot in the WPL 2026 playoffs. They are currently playing in a league of their own.

But below them? It is absolute chaos.

Following Gujarat Giants' (GG) crucial victory over UP Warriorz (UPW) on Jan 22, the race for the remaining two spots has turned into a mathematical thriller. We now have one team on 6 points and three teams tied on 4 points.

Here is the detailed breakdown of the playoff race as of January 23.

1. Gujarat Giants (6 Points) – The New Favorites?

• Status: 2nd Place (Played 6, Won 3)
• Remaining Games: vs Delhi Capitals (Jan 27), vs Mumbai Indians (Jan 30)

The Giants have jumped the queue! By beating UP Warriorz, they have moved to 6 points, giving them a crucial buffer. They are now the only team other than RCB with a positive win record.

• Scenario: One more win takes them to 8 points, which might be enough to qualify given the NRR mess below them. Two wins (10 points) would guarantee a playoff spot.

2. Delhi Capitals (4 Points) – Destiny in Their Hands

• Status: 4th Place (Played 5, Won 2)
• Remaining Games: vs RCB (Jan 24), vs GG (Jan 27), vs UPW (Feb 1)

Advantage DC: They are the only team in the bottom four with three games remaining. While they are currently stuck on 4 points, they have a higher ceiling (max 10 points) than MI or UPW.
