The Bandra Magistrate Court has been directed by the Bombay High Court to decide Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma’s divorce by Thursday, March 20. To provide context, Yuzvendra Chahal is currently associated with the Rajasthan Royals franchise in IPL 2025, with the inaugural event scheduled for March 22. The court has ruled that the divorce proceedings must be expedited and concluded before that date. The couple proceeded to file a shared petition in the High Court, challenging the family court’s decision. Under the provisions of Section 13B of the Hindu Marriage Act, a six-month cooling-off period is legally required before a divorce decree can be granted.
The waiver has been approved as the couple had already been living separately for the past two and a half years and had mutually agreed to end their marriage. Given the circumstances, the imposition of a waiting period was found unnecessary, thereby permitting the dissolution of their marriage to be finalized at an accelerated pace.
The court’s order mandated that a sum of Rs. 4.75 crore be paid by Chahal to Dhanshree. It was stated by the court that an amount of Rs. 2.37 crore had already been paid. A document from the marriage counselor was presented in court, revealing that mediation proceedings had not been fully observed.
During the proceedings, it was remarked by Justice Jamdar that “this was an uncasual case where no respondents were involved, “ as the petition had been jointly filed by both Chahal and Verma.
Meanwhile, speculation was widespread that an alimony sum of Rs 60 crore had been requested by Dhanashree. However, these claims were refuted by her family, who expressed their strong displeasure over the misinformation. In a statement, it was asserted by them that they were “deeply outraged by the unfounded allegations regarding the alimony figure.” They further clarified, stating, “Let it be made clear that no such amount has ever been requested, demanded, or even proposed. These rumors hold no truth whatsoever.”
