A feed of live sports has to function like a well-oiled machine. There are many commentators involved to make sure that the fan experience is a priority. These people play an important role in making sure that the IPL 2025 is taken to a higher level. Among more than 50 commentators across various languages, a few of them stand apart from the rest.
Navjot Singh Sidhu has been a fan favorite in the commentary box. Sidhu, with his ‘Shayari’ (poetry), is loved by many Indian fans. He appears on English, Hindi, and even Punjabi comms. For the broadcasters, Sidhu is a gem, thanks to the virality of his commentary bits. After a hiatus of a few years, the former Indian opener marked his return to the commentary panel in IPL 2024.
Like Sidhu, Aakash Chopra too is known for his famous one-liners. While Chopra might not be as great as Sidhu in the Shayari department, he is one of the most well-known thanks to his presence on social media. The former Indian batter commentates solely on the Hindi feed.
Harsha Bhogle stands apart from the rest of the commentators, having never played the sport at the highest level. Bhogle is a great orator and brings a unique perspective to the game, having not played international cricket.
Ravi Shastri, even after having coached the Indian team for a long time in the last decade and a half, constantly finds himself calling the biggest moments in the history of Indian cricket. In the IPL, Shastri is usually present at the toss to call in high-intensity rivalry clashes. Shastri’s excitement while commentating is second to none and is one of the best when it comes to bringing a level of excitement to low-thrillers.
Jatin Sapru’s role in Hindi commentary is similar to that of Harsha Bhogle in English commentary. The Indian anchor rose to fame in the final of the T20 World Cup. He called the exceptional catch taken by Suryakumar Yadav in the final over to dismiss David Miller.
Irfan Pathan is another fan favorite in the Hindi commentary panel. The former Indian all-rounder has been a great addition to the commentary box in the last couple of years. He won the hearts of millions of fans when a video of him dancing with Rashid Khan went viral when Afghanistan defeated Pakistan in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He created another video when the Asian side defeated England in the Champions Trophy in 2025.
Simon Doull is a great traveller around the world when it comes to commentating on cricket. Thanks to commentating in various countries, Doull brings an extra amount of knowledge for an upcoming player. The Kiwi commentator also has a great voice and a large amount of vocabulary, which obviously helps when talking about cricket.
Ian Bishop, like Doull, commentates in various countries. The Trinidadian commentator is a perfect voice for the shortest format. Apart from the plethora of knowledge he possesses, Bishop also adds a layer of excitement. He is known for one of the most famous lines in cricket when he called the West Indies’ win in the T20 World Cup in 2016. As Carlos Brathwaite clarted Ben Stokes for four consecutive sixes, Bishop yelled, “Remember the name, Carlos Brathwiate, remember the name!”.
Sanjay Manjrekar has been part of the broadcasting teams for a long period of time. He is one of the few players to have had a better career as a commentator than as a player. Manjrekar is unapologetically critical of some of the best players, which often makes his insights even more valuable. He belongs to a rare breed of Indian commentators who call out the stars of the game for their performances.
Suresh Raina as a commentator in the IPL is as exciting as he was as a player. Famously known as the ‘Mr. IPL’, Raina is a livewire behind the mic. He raises his voice just at the end of a sentence to call out an event. For instance, he will describe a shot and suddenly raise his voice as the ball touches the boundary cushion to call a four.
