Who is the Shortest Indian Cricketer Currently?

Cricketers can be short in stature but their match winning performances punches above its weight. Till the year 2025, Prithvi Shaw is the shortest active Indian cricketer with five feet and four inches (163). In spite of a short height, Prithvi has made incredible strides in international cricket with his explosive batting style and outstanding efforts. In the year 2018, Shaw captained the Indian Under-19 World Cup team to the championship victory. 

And then went on to debut for India in Test cricket and immediately scored a Test century. Experts compared Shaw with the great Sachin Tendulkar too. The other Indian cricketer with short statures is middle order batsman Kedar Jadav whose height is also 5 feet and 4 inches which is 163 cm. 

Kedar Jadav made his debut for India at the year 2014 against Sri Lanka. And he is a handy right-arm offbreak bowler and whenever there is a partnership going on MS Dhoni, the then India captain used to give the ball to Kedar and more often than not, he used to provide crucial breakthroughs. Kedar played some crucial knocks with the bat too. For example, in an ODI match against England chasing 320 plus, India lost early wickets then Kedar and Virat stitched a long partnership and won it for India. 

Other than Kedar Jadav, Parthiv Patel too was a short height cricketer with five feet and 3 inches and made his debut at the age of 17. Parthiv Patel has retired from international cricket but Prithvi Shaw despite some setbacks recently with his physical attributes, continues to work hard for the future.

In this list of the shortest cricketers currently playing in India, opening batsman Prithvi Shaw is number one in this list as his height is 5 ft 4 in (163 cm). And after Prithvi, pocket rocket dynamite wicketkeeper batsman Ishan Kishan is second in this list as his height is 5 ft 6 in (168cm). Recently Ishan Kishan has been in good form for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Third in this list is the Mumbai and KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane whose height is 5 ft 6 in (163 cm). Despite KKR not performing quite well in this IPL 2025, Rahane has impressed one and all with his eyecatching batting. 

Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav is fourth in this list of shortest active Indian players. The height of Kuldeep Yadav is 5 ft 6 in (168 cm). Kuldeep has been in good form with the ball with DC and he has a crucial role to play in the Test series against England. Young wicketkeeper-batsman from Bengal Abhishek Porel is last in this list as his height is 5 ft 6 in (168 cm). The young lefty batsman from Chandannagar, Bengal has been a find especially for Delhi Capitals as he has played some outstanding knocks for the DC as an opening batsman.

There are several cricketers from India who are short in stature but marked their presence on the field for their brilliant performances from the past and as well as present. The first cricketer is Parthiv Patel who is the shortest ever Indian cricketer. Parthiv debuted for India in the year 2002 and played some pivotal knocks for India. The second one is middle order batsman Kedar Jadhav whose height is 5 ft 4 in (163 cm). He debuted for the first time for India in the year 2014 and played some handy knocks with the bat. With the ball too, Kedar provided some crucial breakthroughs with the ball as a spinner. Another short height cricketer is leg-spinner Piyush Chawla whose height is 5 ft 6 in ( 168 cm). Chawla debuted for India in the year 2007 and despite being short in stature, Chawla bowled with courage.

1. Parthiv Patel 5’3” (160 cm)

 Parthiv Patel hailing from Gujarat is the shortest cricketer of India. Parthiv made his debut for India at the age of just seventeen. He was a wicketkeeper-batsman known for his grit and determination. Despite being short in stature, Parthiv has faced some of the world’s toughest pacers. From Brett Lee to Glenn Magrath, from Shoaib Akhtar to Shaun Tait, Parthiv has managed it all with his grit and resilience.

2. Kedar Jadav- 5’4” (163 cm)

Kedar Jadav is an effective middle order batsman and a handy part time bowler. Whenever there is a partnership going on MS Dhoni, the then India captain used to give the ball to Kedar and more often than not, he used to provide crucial breakthroughs. Kedar played some crucial knocks with the bat too. The short height of Kedar Jadhav didn’t stop him from clearing boundaries or picking crucial wickets at vital junctions especially in the ODIs.

3. Prithvi Shaw- 5’4’’ (163 cm)

Prithvi Shaw’s stature is similar to that of Kedar Jadhav. Shaw is an active player and he is an opener. Shaw plays aggressively and has a rapid footwork and that is why he has drawn comparisons with Sachin Tendulkar and Virendra Sehwag. Shaw made his Test debut for India in the year 2018 against West Indies and scored a hundred. Despite some recent setbacks, Shaw continues to flourish.

4. Sachin Tendulkar- 5’55” ( 165 cm)

Sachin Tendulkar is a great example of short stature but that didn’t stop him from achieving greater heights in life. Sachin is known as the master blaster after being debuted at the age of just sixteen. Sachin has played for twenty four years for India and has scored the most number of runs in International cricket. Sachin has also scored the most number of centuries in Test format. So for him, height was never the factor while facing challenging bowlers.

5. Sunil Gavaskar- 5’55” ( 165 cm)

Sunil Gavaskar was another legendary batsman of India for whom height was not an issue. Gavaskar’s grit and determination should be talked about more as he faced the mighty West Indian bowlers without wearing the helmet. Despite his short stature, Gavaskar faced those mighty fast bowlers without a helmet and this shows his courage and fight to play for India. He was the first Indian batsman to cross ten-thousand runs in the Test format.

Till the year 2025, Parthiv Patel is the shortest batsman in India whose height stands at 5 feet 3 inches (160 cm). Parthiv has represented India from the year 2002 at the international level. Despite being short in height, Parthiv has played out a significant career as a wicketkeeper batsman showcasing that height doesn’t matter and you can win it through grit and determination. 

Patel was born on March 9, in the year 1985 in the capital city of Ahmedabad in Gujarat. He debuted at the age of 17, making him the youngest wicketkeeper to debut in Test history at that time. After his debut in international cricket, Parthiv immediately marked his presence with an impressive knock of 62 run innings against  Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground in the year 2004 where he had an impressive partnership with the great Sachin Tendulkar and helped India post their highest ever Test total.

 In his International career, Parthiv played 25 Test matches where he scored 934 runs and he has played 38 One Day International (ODIs) where he scored 736 runs. Parthiv Patel retired from all forms of cricket in December in the year 2020. After that Patel was involved in off field activities. He served as a talent scout for Mumbai Indians and has done commentary duties during the IPL.

 In the year 2024, Parthiv Patel was appointed as the assistant and the batting coach of Gujarat Titans. He is actively involved in this role in the 2025 IPL as well. In the end, Parthiv Patel’s career can be shown as an inspiration as the physical limitations cannot create an obstacle to an individual’s aspirations in sports.

Who is the Shortest Bowler in India?

Ramakant Desai, the fast bowler was the shortest bowler ever in India. Because of his height, Ramakant was nicknamed Tiny. Ramakant was born on June 20 in the year 1939 in Bombay and he made his Test debut against the West Indies in the year 1959.

He got into the Indian squad for the West Indies tour of India and debuted in the Delhi Test and bowled a marathon long spell of 49 overs in the only innings of West Indies where his bowling figures was 4 for 169 and he took wickets of Rohan Kanhai, John Holt, the legendary Gary Sobers and Collie Smith. Desai’s international career spanned till the year 1968 in which he played in 28 Test Matches, took 74 wickets at a good average of 37.31. 

The best bowling figures of Desai was 6 wickets for 56 runs. Desai was even more deadly in first-class cricket where he took 468 wickets in 150 matches at an excellent average of 24.10 which includes 22 five-wicket hauls. Despite being short heighted, Desai had a great ability to generate sudden pace and bounce. He was really impactful for India especially on the tour in Australia, West Indies and England.

After his playing days, Desai contributed to the Indian cricket in many ways. He served as an administrator at the BCCI also he was the chairman of the national selection committee. Desai’s legacy will be remembered not only for his on-field performances but also he has shown the way for future young generations of Indian fast bowlers showcasing that if you have skill and determination you can overcome anything in life.
