Cricketers can be short in stature but their match winning performances punches above its weight. Till the year 2025, Prithvi Shaw is the shortest active Indian cricketer with five feet and four inches (163). In spite of a short height, Prithvi has made incredible strides in international cricket with his explosive batting style and outstanding efforts. Patel was born on March 9, in the year 1985 in the capital city of Ahmedabad in Gujarat. He debuted at the age of 17, making him the youngest wicketkeeper to debut in Test history at that time. After his debut in international cricket, Parthiv immediately marked his presence with an impressive knock of 62 run innings against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground in the year 2004 where he had an impressive partnership with the great Sachin Tendulkar and helped India post their highest ever Test total.
In his International career, Parthiv played 25 Test matches where he scored 934 runs and he has played 38 One Day International (ODIs) where he scored 736 runs. Parthiv Patel retired from all forms of cricket in December in the year 2020. After that Patel was involved in off field activities. He served as a talent scout for Mumbai Indians and has done commentary duties during the IPL.
In the year 2024, Parthiv Patel was appointed as the assistant and the batting coach of Gujarat Titans. He is actively involved in this role in the 2025 IPL as well. Ramakant Desai, the fast bowler was the shortest bowler ever in India. Because of his height, Ramakant was nicknamed Tiny. Ramakant was born on June 20 in the year 1939 in Bombay and he made his Test debut against the West Indies in the year 1959.
He got into the Indian squad for the West Indies tour of India and debuted in the Delhi Test and bowled a marathon long spell of 49 overs in the only innings of West Indies where his bowling figures was 4 for 169 and he took wickets of Rohan Kanhai, John Holt, the legendary Gary Sobers and Collie Smith. Desai’s international career spanned till the year 1968 in which he played in 28 Test Matches, took 74 wickets at a good average of 37.31.
The best bowling figures of Desai was 6 wickets for 56 runs. Desai was even more deadly in first-class cricket where he took 468 wickets in 150 matches at an excellent average of 24.10 which includes 22 five-wicket hauls. Despite being short heighted, Desai had a great ability to generate sudden pace and bounce. He was really impactful for India especially on the tour in Australia, West Indies and England.
After his playing days, Desai contributed to the Indian cricket in many ways. He served as an administrator at the BCCI also he was the chairman of the national selection committee. Desai’s legacy will be remembered not only for his on-field performances but also he has shown the way for future young generations of Indian fast bowlers showcasing that if you have skill and determination you can overcome anything in life.
