The Bangladesh cricket team had the perfect reply ready for the visitors Pakistan in response to their 3-0 series defeat when they went to Pakistan in May and June.
This has been a forgettable series so far for the Salman Ali Agha led Pakistan team. The batters have particularly let down the visitors. And they would be looking to save their face by winning the 3rd T20I in Dhaka.
It was a dominating victory for Bangladesh in the T20I as they won by 7 wickets. They first bowled out Pakistan for 110 runs with Taskin Ahmad and Mustafizur Rahman taking 3 and 2 wickets respectively. Fakhar Zaman was the top scorer for Pakistan with 44 runs.
Later, Bangladesh chased the target in 15.3 overs to take a 1-0 lead. Parvez Hossain scored a half-century while Towhid Hridoy scored 36 runs, rescuing Bangladesh from once 2 wickets down for 7 runs.
In the 2nd T20I, it was a more close affair between the two teams. Pakistan got Bangladesh bowled out for 133 runs. Jaker Ali was the team's top scorer with 55 runs while Mahedi Hasan scored 33 runs. For Pakistan, Salman Mirza, Ahmed Daniyal and Abbas Afridi all picked 2 wickets each.
But, Pakistan fumbled even worse. While chasing 134 targets, Pakistan at one stage were 5 out for 15 runs. After that, they couldn't build any significant partnership but Faheem Ashraf’s 51 runs inning combined with small contributions of 19 and 17 runs from Abbas Afridi and Ahmed Daniyal helped Pakistan get close to the target but eventually were all-out for 125 runs as Pakistan won by 8 runs.
For Bangladesh, Shoriful Islam took 3 wickets while the duo of Mahedi Hasan, Tanzim Hasan Sakib picked 2 apiece. Mustafizur and Rishad Hossain also picked 1 wicket each.
The two wins for Bangladesh and two defeats for Pakistan has hugely changed the recent form for both the teams. Now Bangladesh have been in great form in their last 5 matches with 4 wins including 2 wins vs Sri Lanka and two wins vs Pakistan in this series.
Meanwhile, Pakistan who won the 3 T20I series vs Bangladesh earlier, have now lost back-to-back matches in this series to make it 3 wins and 2 losses in their last 5 matches.
Bangladesh would be very happy to already seal the series win with a match remaining. They now have the option to rotate the playing XI a little bit for the 3rd T20I. But, there is all the chance they might stick with the same playing XI as they aim for a 3-0 clean sweep.
There is to be a toss-up for the opening slot between Mohammed Naim and Tanzid Hasan. The former played the 2nd T20I while the latter played the 1st. Otherwise, there are no changes likely with Parvez Hossain, Liton Das, Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali as key batters.
As for bowling, they have been exceptional with the likes of Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmad, Shoriful Islam, Mahedi Hasan, Tanzim Sakib etc.
There is a lot to figure out for the Pakistan team. It's not like they have trouble with a bunch of players, it's just that they aren't accustomed to the Bangladesh conditions.
Pakistan might still go with the same playing. They have the likes of Zaman Saim Ayub, Mohammad Haris, Salman Agha, Khushdil Shah in their batting department.
As for their bowling, they have a bit of an inexperienced bowling line-up, however, that's not been their problem. The likes of Abbas Afridi, Ahmed Daniyal, Salman Mirza have all done well for the visitors, it's the batters who have let down.
Both Bangladesh and Pakistan have previously played 24 T20I matches between them in Head-to-Head battle. And it is Pakistan who have been the most dominant team. Pakistan might have not won a match in this series, they have won 19 times vs Bangladesh, who instead have won only 5 times.
Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka, isn’t really the go-to place for batting success. It actually favors the spin bowlers a lot more. Slow medium bowlers can be pretty effective at this ground. Batsmen will have to stay alert, select their shots carefully, and not just hit everything without thinking. The dew's gonna play a key role here, making it simpler to chase in the second inning when it gets damp in evening games.
Bangladesh: Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain Emon, Litton Das (C), Jaker Ali, Twohid Hridoy, Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, Taskin Ahmad.
Pakistan: Saim Ayub, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Harris, Salman Ali Agha (C), Khushdil Shah, Hasan Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Salman Mirza, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Ahmed Daniyal.
Bangladesh cricket team's left-hand batter Parvez Hossain has been the side's best batter in the series so far with 69 runs in 2 innings including a half-century in the 1st T20I.
Veteran left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman is going to be the bowler to watch out for in this match. The Bangladeshi bowlers have all done really well but Mustafizur’s experience will count well in this case for Bangladesh.
This has been a really difficult series for Pakistan so far. And this is where experienced players like Fakhar Zaman will have to deliver an extra performance for his team. He scored 44 runs in the 1st match but failed like others in the 2nd T20I.
The 31-years-old pacer Salman Mirza has been the best Pakistani bowler in this series. The Lahore born pacer has taken 4 wickets in 2 matches, taking 2 wickets in both the matches for the visitors.
The Bangladesh cricket team has outclassed the Pakistan team in this series as they avenge the earlier T20I series defeat in Pakistan.
This has been a series where both the teams are in-fact fighting for who makes the least mistakes. It's not like Pakistan have been completely dominated, it's that their batters have failed to deliver the desired level of performance.
Pakistan still have a great batting line-up, all they need to ensure they don't make a lot of mistakes. Whereas, despite the lack of experience in bowling, they proved in the 2nd T20I that they can fight. So, if the batters perform well, there is every chance Pakistan can win this match. But, don't still count out Bangladesh though. But, the worry is also the weather with heavy rain forecast unlikely to allow any action.
