The ladies in Blue will now turn their attention to the Women's ODI format. The India Women's and England Women's teams will play three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) beginning on July 16. The first ODI is set to take place at Southampton's Rose Bowl stadium.
The England Women's team will be led by their captain Nat Sciver-Brunt while the Indian team will be led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur. This is a crucial series for both the teams before the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 to be played in India.
Before the big tournament, England will be hoping that players like Sophie Ecclestone, Alice Capsey, Charlie Dean, Tammy Beaumont, Sophia Dunkley, and Kate Cross get the much-needed practice.
Meanwhile, the eyes will be on the likes of Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana , Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana to see how much prepared are the ladies before the home World Cup, where the expectations will be high from them playing at home.
The ODI form of both the teams is quite good going into this match. The hosts England Women's have won three and lost two in their last 5 matches whereas India Women have won 4 in their last 5 matches.
England’s two losses came against bitter rivals Australia but won the next matches against West Indies Women's. As for Team India, their only defeat was against Sri Lanka women's team in a Tri-Series involving South Africa as well, which the Indian Women's won beating Sri Lanka in the final.
The England Women and the India Women have a rich history in the ODI format. These two teams have played 76 Women's ODI matches in which the England Women have won 40 times while the India Women have won 34 times. There have also been two games ending in a draw.
The Rose Bowl stadium in Southampton is renowned for its balanced surface. The pitch has something to offer for the batters as well as the bowlers. There is initially some seam movement with the new ball but it gets better to bat on after a few overs. Spinners can be effective in the middle phase. But the bowlers have to maintain a good line and length throughout the match.
England Women: Maia Bouchier, Tammy Beaumont, Nat Sciver-Brunt (c), Sophia Dunkley, Amy Jones (wk), Alice Capsey, Charlie Dean, Alice Davidson-Richards, Sophie Ecclestone, Linsey Smith, Kate Cross.
India Women: Smriti Mandhana, Pratika Rawal, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Yastika Bhatia (wk), Harleen Deol, Sneh Rana, Deepti Sharma, Amanjot Kaur, Arundhati Reddy, Sayali Satgnare.
Watch out for the England Women's team wicketkeeper batter Amy Jones. She was in terrific form against the West Indies Women's as she scored 251 runs in 2 matches, scoring a century in both the matches.
Linsey Smith was the best bowler for the England Women's vs West Indies Women's in the ODI series. She bowled brilliantly in that series as she picked 7 wickets in 2 matches at an economy rate of 3.15. She is high on confidence and will certainly be looking to prove herself.
The India Women's will be hoping that star batter Smriti Mandhana gives the side a good start while opening the inning. She was in brilliant form in the tri-series as she scored 264 runs in 5 innings, averaging more than 50.
Meanwhile, a lot of eyes will be on Indian medium pacer Amanjot Kaur. She was exceptional in the two matches she played for the team as she picked 6 wickets in 2 matches and will be looking to make an impact again.
Team India made history with their performance in the T20I series. We expect another tightly contested match-up between the two teams. However, England is a much more experienced side in the English conditions. Both the teams have a great squad of players and will be fiercely contested, but in the end, the England Women's experience could just help them a little more over the India Women.
