The West Indies vs Australia 3rd match is all about pride for the hosts. Australia have already won the series with wins in both the first 2 Tests. Australia won the 1st Test by 159 runs and then a 133 victory in the 2nd Test sealed the win for Australia.
Just like the first Test, the 2nd Test was once again a bowlers’ feast. Australia scored 286 runs in the 1st innings after opting to bat first. Alex Carey and Beau Webster delivered half-century each while Alzarri Joseph took 4 wickets with Jayden Seales’ 2 wickets-haul.
It was then a brilliant bowling display from Australia. They bowled out Australia for 253 runs with 3 wickets for Nathan Lyon and 2 wickets each for Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins. For West Indies, Brandon King was the top scorer with 75 runs while John Campbell scored 40 runs.
Australia then scored 243 runs with returning Steve Smith the top scorer with 71 while Cameron Green also scored a half-century. Shamar Joseph picked 4 wickets while Jayden Seales, Alzarri Joseph and Justin Greaves bagged 2 wickets each.
West Indies needed 277 runs to win the match but the Australian bowlers were once again in very good touch as they bowled out West Indies for just 143 runs and won the match by 133 runs. Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon picked 3 wickets each while Josh Hazlewood picked 2.
The 3rd Test match will now be played as a dead-rubber. The match will be played at the Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica starting from 13 July, 12 A.M Indian Standard Time (IST). Below is the WI vs AUS today match prediction details.
What’s in Store For Stokes And Co in The New Cycle Of The WTC 2025-27?
India’s Full Schedule for the Next World Test Championship Cycle (2025–2027)
West Indies’ form has improved as they have now lost back-to-back matches in this series. In the last 5 matches, West Indies have lost 4 matches with the only Test win in the last 5 games coming against Pakistan.
As for Australia, despite their lost against South Africa in the World Test Championship (WTC) final in June, in their last 5 matches, they have won 4 games, including 2 against West Indies in this series and 2 games against Sri Lanka before the WTC final.
West Indies would be very disappointed to have lost the series already. But they would also be very happy given how their bowlers have performed in this series. But the batters have significantly let down.
Going into the final Test match of the series, West Indies might not make any changes to their bowling line-up which has been really good for them from the last few matches, but there are definitely some experiments possible in the batting unit.
The top three of Kraigg Brathwaite, John Campbell and Keacy Carry haven't done really well for them in the series with all three of them yet to cross their individual 100 runs mark in this series.
Shai Hope is the best batter in the team and there could be a possibility that he is promoted to number three to solidify the top-order’s performance. They could also try out Mikyle Louis in this match, who hasn’t really had a great career either.
Australia
Australia have been in great form in this series. Although the batters may not have performed as one would expect from them, yet they have been brilliant given how the surfaces have favoured the bowlers a lot more in this series.
The bowling is perfect for Australia with Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and captain Pat Cummins forming the pace bowling attack while Nathan Lyon with his spin bowling has contributed significantly.
As for batting, Steve Smith made his return to the playing XI after recovering from the finger injury he sustained during the WTC Final vs South Africa.
Despite not being great in this series, Sam Konstas and Usman Khawaja are likely to keep the opening slots. Otherwise, Australia is likely to go unchanged for this match as they aim for a series white wash.
The Australian cricket team has maintained a great head-to-head dominance over the West Indies team. They improved the numbers once again with the win in the 2nd Test. There have been 121 matches between the two teams with Australia winning on 62 occasions while West Indies have won only 33 matches. 26 matches have ended without a result.
The Sabina Park Ground in Kingston, Jamaica is known for its balanced surface. The playing surface here is regarded as the most challenging and perfect for Test cricket. There is early seam movement, pace and bounce available on the first few hours on day 1. Then after, it gets better to bat on and as the game progresses, the spinners also come into the attack, making it an ideal and challenging track for Test cricket.
West Indies: Kraigg Brathwaite, John Campbell, Keacy Carty, Brandon King, Roston Chase (c), Shai Hope (wk), Justin Greaves, Jomel Warrican, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Jayden Seales.
Australia: Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstas, Cameron Green, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Beau Webster, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood.
This hasn't been the best of series for one of the best batters in the West Indies squad, Brandon King. Yet he is the team's top run scorer in this series. King scored 75 runs in the last match which would hopefully increase his confidence.
Among the Australian batters, Travis Head has been the most consistent batter in this series. In the middle-order, Head has managed to tackle the pace bowling and spin bowling really well. So watch out for the left-hand batter once again.
Shamar Joseph has been a bottleneck for the Australian team, particularly in Test cricket. He took 13 wickets when West Indies went on an Australia tour in 2024 and now he has 14 wickets in this series. He will be hoping to add more to it when he takes the field in Jamaica.
While the pace bowlers are the key for the Australian cricket team, Nathan Lyon has been performing really well under the shadow of the pacers. But when the surface itself is expected to help the spinners, Lyon could be the bowler to watch out for.
Just like the first two matches, Australia starts this one as the favourite to win this match. They have been in great form in this series and their bowlers have given perfect reply to the West Indies bowlers’ performance in the series.
While bowling wise both sides have been fairly solid, West Indies though have not got a strong enough batting like Australia. This gives an advantage to the visitors.
And with the pitch surface at Sabina Park likely to offer help for the spinners, veteran Nathan Lyon could be the game-changer. Whereas, captain Roston Chase hasn’t been brilliant with the ball for his side. So we back Australia to once again win in this match to make 3-0 in this Test series.
