But there now seems to be a change in momentum and form for the Bangladesh side in recent times. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been investing a lot of money in their youth development and they got a result for the same when Bangladesh won the U19 World Cup in 2020 beating the giants India U19 team.
A big hallmark of their success is the fact that at least 10 members of their 2020 U19 World Cup winning squad have played for Bangladesh senior team and have established themselves as a regular member of the team.
Some of the notable names from the squad includes Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain, Towhid Hridoy, Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Shoriful Islam.
These players have been given a long rope with the national and it probably is paying off finally. Hridoy is the 2nd top active run scorer in T20I for Bangladesh with 900 runs as of writing this.
Some other examples of their long term investment include the likes of Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mohammad Naim, Jaker Ali, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Mahedi Hasan etc who have all been a part of the Bangladesh national team for almost 2-3 years.
They have also been investing in their club cricket at domestic level. And although not everything is perfect, they most probably getting the house in order. The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is still controversial, but has definitely played a role in the development of local players. They just need to get the league in order and fix all the issues surrounding the league.
The Bangladesh cricket team's positive development could also be seen by their recent performance in the T20I series vs Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
