Before the ODI series, India ‘A’ and South Africa ‘A’ will paly two red-ball matches as planned These matches will happen as planned at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE), a special cricket training centre located near the airport on the city’s outskirts.
This situation might lead to issues for the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) as a host. According to reports, the BCCI and ICC are now reconsidering whether Bengaluru can still host ICC Women’s World Cup matches, which are scheduled between September and November.
Chinnaswamy Stadium is one of five venues in India chosen to host this major tournament. Bengaluru is expected to host the opening match featuring India (on September 30), a semifinal (on October 30), and possibly the final (on November 2). However, if Pakistan doesn’t qualify for the final, that match may be shifted to Colombo instead.
As per the reports, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) may not host any major cricket events in the near future. Following the tragic incident during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2025 victory parade, the Chinnaswamy Stadium has suffered serious structural damage. The chaos and overcrowding on that day led to destruction of several parts of the venue, including compound walls, staircases, railings, and sanitation facilities.
Officials have stated that before hosting any major domestic or international matches, the stadium requires urgent renovation and safety upgrades. The extent of the damage has raised concerns not just about infrastructure but also the preparedness and safety protocols at the venue.
This development is likely to delay or even cancel several scheduled events, including potential matches of the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. If the stadium is not repaired and certified as safe in time, the matches may be moved to alternative venues.
