Bengaluru Police have reportedly arrested Nikhil Sosale, the Head of Marketing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Diegeo India Private Ltd. He was taken into custody at Kempegowda International Airport and will be handed over to the CID, which is now leading the investigation. Police have also arrested three employees from DNA Entertainment Networks Pribate Ltd.
Those taken in for questioning at the Cubbon Parck Police Station include senior event manager Kiran Kumar, vice president of business affairs Sunil Mathew, and another staff member name Sumanth. The stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4 led to the deaths of 11 people and left over 50 others injured.
The Cubbon Park police filed a case on their own on June 5 under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including those related to causing death without intent, stopping government officers from doing their duty, and putting lives in danger. The FIR includes several charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), such as 105 (punishment for causing death without intent to kill), 115 (intentionally causing injury), 118 (causing serious injury with dangerous weapons), 190 (every member of an unlawful assembly is guilty of crimes committed in pursuit of a common goal), 132 (using force to prevent a public servant from doing their job), and 125 (actions that put others' lives or safety at risk).
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, in a quickly arranged press conference on June 5, said the state cabinet had decided to arrest officials from RCB, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and the event manager DNA Networks. He also mentioned that the case would be handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). As per sources, ADGP CID BK Singh will lead the investigation.
The second FIR was filed based on the complaint of Rolongumes, who was injured in the incident, under the BNS section 125 A (act endangering life or personal safety of others).
