While speaking on his YouTube channel, Basit was frustrated because of the defeat and labelled the day a “black day in Pakistan cricket.” He made a stark comparison between the current team’s struggles and the command Pakistan once held over New Zealand, specifically showcasing the era of legendary fast bowlers Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis. “In my eyes, today was the black day in Pakistan cricket. Even for those who left the game,” Basit said in disappointment.
“When Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis used to bowl, New Zealand didn't dare to move their feet. Now unfortunately, they are doing commentary and criticizing us. They were making fun of us when Pakistan sent Usman Khan as a concussion substitute.”
Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan was also criticized by Basit Ali, who questioned his leadership ability. And said, “Where was Rizwan when Imam left the field? His captaincy was so bad that he doesn’t even know who to bowl at what overs; it’s like childish behavior, “ he asserted.
Furthermore, Basit expressed uncertainty regarding the injury suffered by opener Imam-ul-Haq, suggesting it was a strategy to deflect further demands.
“Imam got scared after being hit and walked off. He prioritizes his health first. Does he think we can’t see? All of the players just want their money, that's it. It’s the tragedy of Pakistan cricket.
There is no one to replace them. Even if you participate in one series, you can come back in the next,” Basit said in frustration, highlighting his concerns about the player’s commitment.
After the match, acknowledgement for the team’s performance and the thought for the need to improve was expressed by Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan. “Disappointing series for us.
Praising Babar, he said, “Babar was good in the fifties. Naseem Shah’s batting was good as well as his bowling. Sufiyan Muqeem was the only person who bowled well. I encourage the New Zealand team in all departments. They have been playing well,” Rizwan said during the post-match conference.
