Sameer Rizvi came into bat in the 10th over after Sediqullah Atal got out. DC was needed to build a partnership and that’s what Rizvi did with Karun Nair. He played a matured innings, rotated the strike well and hit the odd boundaries and sixes when needed. He had an important partnership of 62 with Karun Nair and brought DC back in the game. Rizvi played some audacious shots and played the spinners well too. Rizvi has three fours and five sixes in this match winning knock of 58 not out off 25 balls and most importantly he stayed till the end.
Came in the fifth over of the match after a blistering start from the top three batters, Shreyas maintained his good form with the bat. In this all important match, Shreyas led from the front and played a captain’s knock. After the wickets of Inglis and Prabhsimran, Shreyas steadied the ship with Nehal Wadhera and stitched a crucial partnership of 41. In his knock of 53 in just 34 balls, Shreyas has hit five fours and two sixes. In the end he got out in the 17th over playing a captain’s knock.
Came into bat in the fifteenth over after Shashank Singh got out and scored a game changing innings of 44 in just 16 balls. Having Marcus Stoinis in any team is a luxury because he can strike the ball from the beginning with full power. Stoinis took on Mukesh Kumar in the sixteenth over for a six, six and four over. From there on, the momentum shifted towards the PBKS. Then in the eighteenth over, Stoinis took apart the veteran Mohit Sharma for a 21 run over. Stoinis has shown tremendous ability to strike the ball cleanly in every part of the ground. In his innings of 44, Stoinis has hit 3 boundaries and 4 massive sixes.
The Bangladeshi left arm pacer came as the replacement of Mitchell Starc and not allowing the DC team to miss him. As they often call him Fizz. Fizz was right up to the mark with his bowling. He deceived the PBKS openers with his variations. Firstly he got the important wicket of Priyansh Arya with a great short ball. Then in the fifteenth over, he went wide on the crease, created a greater angle from over the wicket and got the big wicket of Shashank Singh. Then in the very last over he didn’t concede many runs against the likes of Stoinis and took the crucial wicket of Marco Jansen.
After putting on the bat by the DC captain, Punjab Kings finished up with a strong total of 206/8 after 20 overs. Delhi’s new replacement Mustafizur Rahman started brilliantly as he took the wicket of in-form Priyansh Arya in his first over. After that Aussie batter Josh Inglis played a nice cameo of 32 in 12 balls. Vipraj Nigam of the Delhi Capitals bowled with great heart as he took two wickets for 38 runs. In the Punjab Kings batting, skipper Shreyas Iyer led from the front and scored a crucial 53 in 34 balls hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes. Then right at the 16th over, Marcus Stoinis came and scored a blistering knock of 44 not out in just 16 balls and took the momentum away from DC. Coming into the bowling of DC, Starc’s replacement Mustafizur Rahman took 3 wickets for 33 runs. The young lad Vipraj Nigam bowled nicely too as he took 2 tools for 38 runs and experienced bowler Kuldeep Yadav too took 2 wickets for 39 runs as PBKS ended the 20 overs with 206/8.
Coming into the bat the DC openers gave a great start as DC lost the first wicket in KL Rahul for 55 runs. Faf Du Plessis was also striking the ball decently. But lost his wicket in the wrong time as that time the score of DC was 65/2 in the sixth over. Then came the Afghan debutant Sadiqullah Atal and hit some handy sixes in his knock of 22 in 16 balls. Atal got out in the 10th over then the player of the match Sameer Rizvi came into bat and played a match defining knock. In this knock of 58, Rizvi shared a vital partnership with Karun Nair. After Karun Nair got out in the 14th over, Rizvi shared another important partnership with Tristan Stubbs and got DC over the line. After losing this match, PBKS now need to win the next match to stay in the hunt for the top 2 race.
