Pakistan has lately announced their schedule to play against the West Indies. The opening T20 will be played on 1st August at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Florida. The next 2 matches will not give them time to rest and recover, as they are scheduled for 3rd and 4th August at the same venue. Teams will have to fly to West Indies to play ODIs which will begin on 8th August, and held in 2 days gap, on 10th and 12th August at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad and Tobago. The pitch at Florida is considered batting friendly, especially in the early stages of match. T20s require such pitches, so that teams can pose big scores and make the game challenging for the opponents. As the game progresses, assistance is there for spinners. The ODIs, being 100 overs game, require a neutral pitch. The Brian Lara Cricket Academy is not inclined either towards bowlers or batters. Both the teams will get sometime to assess the pitch and play accordingly!
Salman Ali Agha (C), Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Hasan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Haris (wicket-keeper),
Mohammad Nawaz, Sahibzada Farhan (WK), Saim Ayub, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Sufyan Moqim
The T20 squad does not feature the famous player Babar Azam. The players who play the limited overs game are those that can attack vigorously and hit big shots accordingly! In the given squad, Fakhar Zaman will play a pivotal role as he had impressed in the first T20s and would want to reproduce his innings. The skipper, Salman Agha hasn’t been impactful and would like to get his wheel of fortune on this series. The middle order crisis has disappointed the side as batters like Hasan Nawaz and Mohammad Nawaz have not been able to keep up with the batting. Sahibzada Farhan will be an important factor and needs to act with utmost responsibility. The bowling attack will feature Salman Mirza who has been consistent in the T20s against Bangladesh and do the same. Abrar Ahmed, a 26 year old is the next super pick of the squad, as after playing 14 matches, he took 17 wickets with the best bowling figures of 3/19. The team has a balanced squad, but the major issue is fielding, and they need to pull up their socks before they face the West Indies batters.
Mohammad Rizwan (C), Salman Ali Agha (vice-captain), Abdullah Shafique, Abrar Ahmed, Babar Azam, Faheem Ashraf, Fakhar Zaman, Hasan Ali, Hasan Nawaz, Hussain Talat, Mohammad Haris (WK), Mohammad Nawaz, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Sufyan Moq
Mohammad Rizwan, who is the stand in captain for Pakistan could not find himself a spot in the T20 squad. He is well known for his big knocks and excellent ability to time the shots. In a span of 10 years, he has played 91 matches and amassed 2644 runs with 4 centuries and fifteen 50s, along with the best score of 131. Babar Azam, the former skipper touched the
rock bottom and is struggling to get over it. The dexterous batter has several records under his name, like being the fastest to reach 2,000 and 3,000 ODI runs. The 50 over format is particularly his favourite and he would want to rewrite the script this time! The bowling attack includes the young-star Naseem Shah, who has played 30 T20s, with 25 wickets and has commendable control over the ball. Shaheen Shah Afridi is another notable player who has good International exposure, after taking 102 wickets in the 79 T20 matches. These bowlers will particularly be a threat to West Indies bowlers, who are disappointed with their performances.
The 31 year old bowler who had been pretty good in the series against Bangladesh had been dropped from the T20I squad. In the three matches played against the tigers, he had been very important as he took 7 wickets and was the leading wicket taker. Even after such a good performance, he did not find place.
The young debutant featured in the 2 matches against Bangladesh and impressed the crowd in such a short time. He picked 3 wickets in 2 matches at a decent economy of 5.57 and came to bat at the time of need, scoring 17 runs. He has been excluded from the squad.
Afridi is another bowler who has been omitted to play in the upcoming series. He played only 1 match against Bangladesh and took 2 wickets.
In the ODI squad, the 24 year old could not reserve a spot for himself. He has just played 3 ODI matches, and took 7 wickets with the best bowling figure of 4/62. The youngster was in the team against the Kiwis, but not against the Indies.
Another experienced player is not a part of the squad against the West Indies. He played his first ODI in 2017, and in a span of 8 years, he has made himself a strong contender. In the 75 matches played, he has 3152 runs under his name with 9 centuries, making him a must included player in the team.
Another 23 year old could not make it to the team. He is a right arm fast bowler who has played 22 matches in his young career and took 36 scalps with a good average of 5.50. Wasim has been a reasonable player, who should have made it to the squad.
