As per the reports, in an interview, Priyank admitted that he had been thinking about quitting for some time. He said, "For a long time, it was in my mind that I should retire. When I started playing cricket, there was a driving force that I wanted to play for India. Along with the driving force, there was discipline and dedication. But after a point, I got practical, I didn't think that it was possible. I tried my best. I mean, I played for India A, and I played in the Ranji Trophy. But I realised it's time now. It's not going to happen anymore," he said.
When he was questioned about not making his India debut is still heartbreaking, Priyank openly admitted that it does. Not being able to play for the Indian team is regrettable. But at the same time, I see it as an achievement too. If cricket of rated from 1 to 10, I reached level 9. I couldn’t take the final step. Of course, it’s disappointing. But getting a chance to share the dressing room with players like Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin was a big moment for me. The environment was very professional, but also friendly. It was highly competitive, and I learned a lot from it,” said the Gujarat batter.
Priyank shared that even scoring a lot of centuries may not be enough to get a spot in the national team. "Of course, being consistent is important. Players need to perform well. But it also matters when you perform. In international cricket, timing plays a big role. If you're scoring hundreds regularly but the team isn't winning, it may not count for much. On the other hand, even scoring just 30 runs can matter a lot if it helps your team win. That kind of impact is what international cricket looks for. I learned a lot from this,' he said."
