Rohit Sharma has made history by becoming the oldest Indian cricketer to reach the No. 1 spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings. At 38 years and 182 days old, he moved up two places to claim the top position for the first time in his career, surpassing Indian captain Shubman Gill.
Rohit’s ascent in the rankings followed an outstanding performance in India’s recent three-match ODI series against Australia, where he scored 202 runs at an average of 101. He was the top run-scorer of the series and received the Player of the Series award. In contrast, Shubman Gill managed only 43 runs in three matches, causing him to drop to third place in the rankings.
As it stands, Rohit leads the rankings with 781 rating points, followed closely by Ibrahim Zadran with 764 points in second place, and Gill in third. Virat Kohli is currently sixth with 725 points, while Shreyas Iyer has moved up to ninth.
Rohit’s achievement comes amidst speculation about his future in ODIs, especially since Gill was recently appointed as India’s ODI captain. Although Rohit hinted that the tour of Australia might be his last in the country, he expressed his enjoyment of playing there.
