During the third ODI against Australia, Indian batter Shreyas Iyer, who also serves as the ODI vice-captain, took a hit to his left lower rib area while fielding. He's now getting treatment in a Sydney hospital.
At first, he just felt some pain, but it got bad enough that he had to go to the hospital. Doctors did some tests and discovered he had a spleen laceration. This injury caused internal bleeding, and because his vital signs were dangerously low, he was admitted to the ICU. The situation was very serious and potentially life-threatening.
Good news, though: the BCCI has stated that Shreyas is now stable and getting better. The BCCI's medical team is working with experts in both Sydney and India to keep a close watch on him. The Indian Team Doctor is staying with Iyer in Sydney to keep tabs on his progress.
It's hard to say when he'll be fully recovered. It's expected to take longer than first thought, and he'll probably need to stay in the hospital for at least another week for observation.
