The South African cricket team is heading into the second Test against India in Guwahati tomorrow with a 1-0 lead after a tough 30-run win in Kolkata. Captain Temba Bavuma's solid 55 and some excellent spin bowling helped them win, and now they're looking for a rare series win in India.
But, they'll have to do it without fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, who's still out with a rib injury. Head coach Shukri Conrad isn't too worried, though. He believes the team can still find a way to win, just like they did in the World Test Championship final.
The pitch in Guwahati should be good for batting at first, then help the spinners later on. India's captain, Shubman Gill, is out with a neck injury, so Rishabh Pant is stepping in to lead. South Africa has a good chance to take advantage of this and win another Test in Asia.
Women's Team Gets a Boost
Meanwhile, South Africa's women's cricket team is getting a big lift with Dane van Niekerk coming back for the series against Ireland in December. She had quit earlier this year but is back after playing really well for Western Province.
Coach Mandla Mashimbyi says that this isn't just a feel-good pick. Van Niekerk has proven that she's fit enough to play. Adding her back into the team, which already includes her wife, Marizanne Kapp, makes things even more interesting as they get ready for the series. The team expects Van Niekerk to play well and help out, but not to feel like she has to save the team.
