Critics, including former cricketer Junaid Khan, have also questioned Suryavanshi’s age, pointing out his extraordinary power and skills. In response, Vaibhav’s father, Sanjiv Suryavanshi, has defended his son, citing BCCI-approved bone tests and the family’s openness about his age as proof of authenticity. The controversy escalated after his 2017 photo and IPL auction price of Rs 1.10 crore. Despite the allegations, Vaibhav has not stopped proving his talent on the field, with his family strongly denying any age fraud.
Fans and supporters have made a buzz on social media, questioning Suryavanshi’s age, who is the youngest player to show the extraordinary power and skills and score a century in the IPL. The year-old star player Suryavanshi shines with a stack of records with his hundred against the Titans at RR’s home ground, the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday.
While the player has earned lots of praise and love from fans and greats of the game, but fans couldn’t find any other explanation for his talent except for ‘age fraud’.
“Even if this Vaibhav guy did age fraud, such insane power-hitting at the age of 15-16 is crazyyy man," posted a user on X.
Another user posted an old video of Vaibhav giving an interview and claimed, “Vaibhav is definitely older than he states."
“No way Vaibhav Suryavanshi is 14 years old. This is a 3-4-year-old video where he himself accepted that he looks younger than his age and defo not 15! This case should be deeply investigated by @BCCI, and ban him if found guilty."
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s former coach, Manish Ojha, weighed in on the age-fudging controversy. His coach clarified how Suryavanshi had passed all the tests that could verify his correct age.
Ojha, in an interview with Bhaskar English, explained how the 14-year-old prodigy has completed the rigorous age tests from the BCCI. "Stop questioning his age. He is an asset to the country. It is our responsibility to take care of him. He has already received a clean chit from the BCCI. The board has allowed him to play in the age group", Ojha said.
Explaining the process further, the coach talked about how Vaibhav has not only provided the required documents, but also an age test on his bones was also conducted. He said, "BCCI is such a big organisation, if he was wrong, he wouldn't have gotten the chance to play. He has provided all the proof documents. Not only that, his bone test has also been done. He has received clearance from there as well. In India, everyone has the freedom to question. Now we won't provide proof to everyone. I would also like to tell Vaibhav to focus on his game. Do not pay attention to all these things."
Ojha remains hopeful that people will stop questioning his age after understanding the depths that Suryavanshi has gone on to prove that he is 14 years of age.
