The West Indies' preparation for the T20 World Cup 2026 has hit a slight speed bump. In the series opener against South Africa at Boland Park, the Proteas skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and elected to bowl first. However, the biggest talking point is the absence of West Indies captain Shai Hope.
Shai Hope has been ruled out of the 1st T20I, forcing a last-minute leadership change.
Hope’s absence disrupts the West Indies' top-order stability. He is usually the anchor that allows power hitters like Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell to explode.
