The confirmation regarding The Aussie opener’s transition has been done, with Victorian Premier team Melbourne announcing him as their head coach, while he has already taken on a commentary role with Channel Seven.
Will Pucovski might be remembered as one of the great lost talents of Australian cricket, especially after his 62 on debut against India at the SCG.
Pucovski made his Test debut in 2021. He scored 62 runs from 110 balls and shared a 100-run co-performance for the second wicket with Marnus Labuschagne. The Indian bowling attack featured Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, Ravichandan Ashwin, Navdeep Saini, and Ravindra Jadeja. He was dismissed by Saini in the first innings. Siraj accounted for his wicket after he managed just 10 runs off 16 balls in the second innings.
He had been 36 times at the First Class level, scoring seven tons and nine fifties across a successful tenure for his state, including a top score of 255 not out against South Australia in 2020.
Pucovski featured his first-class career with 2350 runs from 36 games, with his Sheffield Shield average at a stunning 51.4. His last big performance boost came in February 2024 when he scored 131 against the New South Wales attack featuring Test spinners Nathan Lyon, Jackson Bird, and Chris Tremain.
He was a member of Victoria’s Sheffield Shield-winning team in 2019, and together with Marcus Harris, he holds the record for the highest stand for any wicket in the tournament's history, with 486 vs South Australia in October 2020.
