WCL Teams and Captains

The WCL has six teams: India Champions, Pakistan Champions, Australia Champions, South Africa Champions, West Indies Champions, and England Champions. Each team is filled with big names who no longer play for their national teams but can still hit big sixes or bowl tricky deliveries.

The tournament starts with a round-robin stage, where all teams play each other. The best teams move to the semi-finals and then the final. In 2024, India Champions won the first WCL, beating Pakistan Champions by 5 wickets in an exciting final at Edgbaston. The 2025 season is already delivering close games, like Pakistan Champions’ 5-run win over England Champions on July 18.

The tournament is in its second season and about to culminate in a high-octane fashion with a faceoff among the four quarterfinalists - India, Pakistan, Australia, and South Africa. Since its 2024 inception, many batters have given their best post-retirement T20 performance, including the highest individual score. Here are the top 5 players with the highest runs in the World Championship of Legends from 2024 to 2025:

1. AB de Villiers - 123 off 46 balls

In the history of WCL, AB de Villiers is the highest individual scorer with 123 runs off 46 balls, which he scored against Australia champions in 2025. De Villiers is a South Africa batting genius, celebrated for his versatility, innovative shots, and ability to dominate any bowling attack with 360-degree strokeplay. In WCL 2025, he tops the run charts with 305 runs, with his highest score being 123* off 46 balls at a strike rate of 267.39 against Australia, featuring 15 fours and 8 sixes. Leading South Africa in the tournament, De Villiers’ flair and consistency make him a WCL standout.

2. Kamran Akmal - 113 off 62 balls 

The second WCL highest individual scorer is Kamran Akmal, a Pakistani wicketkeeper who scored 113 runs off 62 balls in the 2025 season. He is known for his aggressive opening style, quick scoring, and crisp boundary-hitting, excelling in powerplays. In the ongoing WCL 2025, Akamal smashed 113 from just 62 with a 182.26 strike rate against the West Indies. In WCL 2024, he scored 180 runs, including 26 fours and 4 sixes. In T20Is, Akmal played 58 matches, scoring 987 runs at an average of 21.00 and a strike rate of 119.63, with five fifties, highest score 73. His experience drives Pakistan’s WCL success.

3. Ravi Bopara - 110 off 55 balls

Next, Ravi Bopara is on the list of the highest score by a batsman in WCL history. English batter Ravi Bopara is a versatile middle-order batsman known for his strategic batting style, anchoring the innings with his calm and composure. 5. JJ Smuts -  85 off 53 balls 

Last but not least, JJ Smuts, a South African all-rounder, who scored 85 runs, which is the fifth highest run scorer in the WCL history. JJ Smut bagged the 85 runs in 53 balls with a strike rate of 160.38 against Australia Champion. He is a dynamic top-order batsman known for his aggressive strokeplay and ability to build innings, complemented by left-arm spin. So far in his WCL, he scored 129 runs in 4 innings with an average of 32.25 and a strike rate of 157.32.
