Andre Russell of KKR has the highest rate in IPL history. Russell has been a prolific finisher for the side and will always be remembered for some of his great match winning knocks. There had been moments where Russell’s late batting show had single handedly helped KKR cross the line.
Over the years the scoring rate in the IPL has reached a new high. More runs are scored than ever before. In IPL 2024, the total score of 260 was crossed five times.
Having a high strike rate is a must in a tournament where scoring quick runs in a few overs can change the course of a match. Players who score at a consistent pace are invaluable to their teams, often changing the course of a match with their fearless attitude. As the IPL has evolved, new hard-hitters have emerged, challenging established records. But who holds the title for the best strike rate in IPL history?
In this list most names are of the players who had been star of the IPL in last five years, but some veteran also make the cut, such as Virendra Sehwag, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers. These batters batting was once considered “ahead of their time:

Andre Russell has made a name for himself for being one of the most fearsome strikers of the cricket ball. In the T20 format, there is hardly any player who has a better six-hitting ratio than the Jamaican all-rounder. In IPL, Russell has been a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise for more than a decade. During his stay at KKR, Russell has not only the coveted IPL trophy but has played a huge role in the team’s success with the bat in hand. With a strike rate of almost 175, he has the highest strike rate in the IPL.
2. Heinrich Klaasen:
Heinrich Klaasen is arguably the best finisher at present time in T20 cricket. He ranks second on this list with a strike rate of 168.30. The South African wicket-keeper batter has not only struck at high strike rates in T20 leagues but has also been the backbone of South Africa’s success in international tournaments like the T20 World Cup 2024. Klaasen’s hitting ability was on full display in the recent IPL in 2024 where SRH reached the finals. Even though he was often overshadowed by Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma when given a chance the 33-year-old showed his power-hitting abilities to the World.
Sunil Narine stands alone among the batters in this list. Narine who is known all across the world for his mystery spin makes it into this list because of his ability to take risks in the powerplay. With a strike rate of more than 165, Narine ranks third but has arguably a greater impact than any of the batters on the list. Narine has won the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award thrice which is the most by any player. He has also been part of the Kolkata Knight Riders since 2012 and has played an instrumental role in the franchise's three titles. Two of his three MVP awards came in 2012 and 2024 where KKR won the title.
In spite of appearing on this list, many would say that Liam Livingstone’s time at the IPL has been a disappointing one. The Englishman has not performed at the levels he was expected to. He has a strike rate of 162.45 and ranks fourth on this list but there have not been many match-winning performances from him. It is his failure with the bat in hand that has also played a big role in the Punjab Kings not making it to the playoffs in recent years.
Nicholas Pooran is the third player from the West Indies to make it into this list. It is not a surprise as the West Indians have often been the star performers with the bat in hand at the IPL. Pooran has a strike rate of 162.29 and is just slightly behind Livingstone. While he has not won the IPL trophy even once, he has made sure the fans remember him because of his high-striking prowess. In recent years at the Lucknow Super Giants, the wicket-keeper batter has been a huge success. LSG has made it to the playoffs two out three times since their addition to the IPL which has been made possible hugely because of Pooran.
