Highest Team Totals in IPL Till Now

Thanks to the impact player rule there were multiple records which were broken in IPL 2024. Most of these records were made by Sunrisers Hyderabad. The 2016 champion boasted an impressive opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. Here is a look at the highest team score in IPL.

1. Sunrisers Hyderabad(287/3) vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Sunrisers Hyderabad scored the highest team score in IPL against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The enormous total came the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru which is possibly the most batting-favoured ground in India. Talking about the match, it was RCB who won the toss and decided to field first a decision they would soon regret.

The opening pair of Head and Abhishek shared a 108-run stand before the Indian batter was dismissed. Sharma scored 34 runs in 22 balls. Heinrich Klaasen was promoted to number three after seeing the onslaught by Head. Head scored a ton at a strike rate close to 250. The Australian left-handed batter scored 102 runs in just 41 balls. Klaasen too showed his prowess scoring 67 runs in just 31 balls. Aiden Markram and Abdul Samad played perfect cameos to provide a finishing touch to the innings. Markram scored 32 runs in 17 balls while Samad scored 37 runs in just 10 balls.

2. Sunrisers Hyderabad (277/3) vs Mumbai Indians

SRH also has the second-highest total in the history of IPL. The Orange Army scored 277 runs against the five-time champions, MI. Once again it was Head and Abhishek who dominated the MI bowlers.

After losing Mayank Agarwal early in the first innings, Head was joined by Abhishek. The Australian hitter scored 62 runs in 24 balls while the Indian youngster scored 63 runs in just 23 balls. Unlike against RCB, Klaasen was not happy playing the supporting role against MI. The South African batter scored 80 runs in 34 balls and was greatly supported by his compatriot, Markram who scored 42 runs in 28 balls.

3. Kolkata Knight Riders (272/7) vs Delhi Capitals

Sunil Narine opening the batting has been a great example of how things work in the modern T20 game. If you look at the bowling statistics of the 36-year-old you would wonder why is he opening the batting. Narine’s batting when working can take the game away from the opponent in a matter of a few overs. He was back at the opening spot in IPL 2024 and showed how he can still be a great asset with the bat in hand.

KKR scored 272 runs against Delhi Capitals in Vishakhapatnam thanks to Narine. The left-handed batter scored 85 runs in 39 balls. 20-year-old, Angkrish Raghuvanshi also scored a half-century at a strike rate of 200. Andre Russell showed his muscle power scoring 41 runs in 19 balls. Rinku Singh with his 26 runs off eight balls provided the finish required to reach the gigantic score.

4. Sunrisers Hyderabad (266/7) vs Delhi Capitals

Once again it was DC’s bowlers who had to endure their opponent’s batters’ wrath and once again it was SRH who were tormenting the bowlers. This was one of the matches which was won by SRH in the batting powerplay. SRH scored 266 runs against DC at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Head and Abhishek scored 125 runs in the powerplay. Abhishek scored 46 runs in 12 balls while his opening partner scored 89 runs in 32 balls. Shahbaz Ahmed scored 59 runs in 27 balls while Nitish Kumar Reddy scored 37 runs in 27 balls.

5. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (263/5) vs Pune Warriors India

While all the above-listed totals came in 2024 where they had the luxury of impact player rule, RCB’s 263 against Pune Warriors India came in 2013 where there was no such rule. It was Chris Gayle who put on a storm against PWI bowlers at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The legendary T20 batter in the process also registered the highest individual score in the format’s history.

Gayle scored 175 runs in the first and remained not out. He faced 66 deliveries out of which 30 were boundaries including 17 sixes. Only AB de Villiers who scored 31 runs in eight balls could steal the limelight away from the Jamaican batter that too for a short while.

Highest Team Scores in IPL Final History

In 2016, SRH scored 208 runs in the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Chinnaswamy Stadium which is the highest team score in IPL final. Skipper, David Warner scored 69 runs in 38 balls but it was a great finishing touch from Ben Cutting who scored 39 runs in just 15 balls to reach the monumental score of 208 runs. In reply, RCB too scored 200 runs which is the fifth-highest total in IPL finals. Chennai Super Kings’ 205 against RCB in 2011, Mumbai Indians’ 202 against CSK and Kolkata Knight Riders’ 200 against Kings XI Punjab (Punjab Kings) in 2014 also feature on the list for top-five highest scores in the IPL finals.

Which team has the highest totals in IPL history?

Sunrisers Hyderabad holds the record for scoring the highest team score in IPL history. SRH not only holds the record for the highest team score in IPL but has four totals on the top-five list. KKR and RCB also feature on the list. SRH made a name for themselves thanks to their power-hitting and fearless approach with the bat in hand. Players like Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen often changed the match on its head in a space of few balls. Even rising Indian stars like Nitish Kumar Reddy and Abdul Samad played a role in making sure the fearless approach stays intact which helped them in reaching the finals in IPL 2024.
