Mitchell Owen made the most centuries in BBL 2024/25. The opening batter for Hobart Hurricanes made two tons in the season, the second of which came in the final against Sydney Thunder. Owen’s strike rate of 203.60 made him stand apart from the rest of the batters.
Steve Smith, James Vince, and Matthew Short made a century each in the season. Among the three batters, Smith played the least number of innings. For the major part of the tournament, the right-hander was playing for Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and therefore missed many matches.
Luke Wright has the most centuries in the BBL for an overseas player. The English batter has made two centuries in the BBL. He was a regular feature for the Melbourne Stars for seven seasons he played 57 matches for them. The right-handed batter announced himself in the league in some fashion with a century in the first season. His 44-ball ton in BBL 2011/12 was the highest score of the season.
Wright’s second century in the Big Bash League came roughly five years in the 2015/16 season after his first in the ever-important Melbourne Derby. He scored 109* while chasing a target of 162 runs. The unbeaten knock from the English batter sealed the victory for the Stars against the Renegades in the final over.
No other player has outperformed themselves in a single season like Mitchell Owen did in the 2024/25 season. Coming into the season, Owen had scored 79 runs in the previous four seasons. However, given a regular spot at the top of the order for Hobart Hurricanes, the 23-year-old turned out to be a revelation in the batting lineup. He made two centuries in the season, the second of which came in the final.
His first century came against the Perth Scorchers in a successful chase of a target of 156 runs. Owen played an unbeaten knock of 101 runs in 64 balls which consisted of nine fours and five sixes. However, it was his second century that will be remembered by every fan of the Hurricanes. Chasing 183 in the final against Sydney Thunder, Owen’s knock killed any hopes that the Thunder had in the first powerplay itself. He scored 108 runs in only 42 balls and in the process joined Craig Simmons on the list of the fastest century in the tournament. His knock helped his team to win their first BBL title.
Craig Simmons jointly holds the record for scoring the second-most centuries in the BBL. The left-handed batter has had a strange career in both domestic cricket and the Big Bash League. In spite of his impressive record in 20 matches for the Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers, Simmons' chances have been limited. The tall batter from New South Wales made two centuries in his first season in the BBL.
Playing for the Perth Scorchers in BBL 2013/14, Simmons scored 102 runs in only 41 balls against the Adelaide Strikers to help his side register a five-run victory. His knock included eight sixes and fours each. A few days later in the 2nd Semi-Final, the opening batter scored 112 runs off 58 balls against the Sydney Sixers. His first two seasons in the Big Bash League came for the Brisbane Heat and the Melbourne Renegades. However, a move to the Hobart Hurricanes has resulted in huge personal growth. Playing against the Melbourne Renegades, McDermott scored 114 runs in 52 balls to successfully chase down a target of 223 runs.

McDermott followed it up with a knock of 127 runs in 65 balls against the Renegades. The record-breaking ton helped the Hurricanes win the match by 85 runs.
When a person or a cricket fan thinks of Steve Smith they rarely imagine him playing in a pink jersey for Sydney Sixers. The Australian batter has created a legacy for himself as one of the best batters of his generation in tests. However, for the limited time he is not playing for Australia in the longest format, Smith plies his trade in the Big Bash League. The right-handed batter has the most centuries in the BBL with three triple-digit scores next to his name.
He scored his first two centuries in the 2022/23 season. Smith’s first hundred came against the Adelaide Strikers when he made 101 runs in 56 balls before running himself out. Four days later, Smith bettered his score as he played an unbeaten knock of 125 runs. It was a Sydney Smash against the Thunders where Smith’s ton helped his team register a 125-run victory.
Smith’s third ton came in the 2024/25 season. Playing his first game of the season, Smith made 121 runs in 64 balls against Perth Scorchers. Only a week before his knock, the right-hander was playing test cricket against India.
